Top 5 Upcoming Toyota SUVs – New Fortuner To Taisor

Japanese automaker, Toyota is getting good response from its new breed of cars including the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Glanza and the Innova Hycross. In fact, the Hycross 3-row MPV comes with a waiting period of over 1 year. The company is constantly selling over 20,000 units per month. In order to further improve sales, Toyota is preparing to launch 5 new SUVs in the Indian market in the next 2-3 years.

Toyota has started working on the next gen Fortuner SUV, which is expected to be launched sometime in 2024. However, the India-spec model is likely to be launched in 2025. The SUV will be designed and developed on an all-new TNGA-F architecture, which currently underpins multiple global cars including the Land Cruiser 300, Lexus LX500d and the new Tacoma pickup. This platform is compatible with different body styles and multiple engine options including ICE and hybrid.

The new-gen Toyota Fortuner is likely to be powered by a 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine, which comes with a 48-volt mild hybrid setup. The engine will be coupled to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. This hybrid setup comprises of a 48-volt battery, a small electric motor generator and other components. After introducing the Glanza and Rumion, Toyota is now preparing to launch a new compact SUV based on the Maruti Suzuki Fronx crossover. Rumoured to be called the Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor, the new SUV Coupe is expected to be introduced sometime in early 2024. The new model will come as a replacement for the Urban Cruiser compact SUV, which was based on the previous-gen Maruti Vitara Brezza. The new SUV will rival the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Renault Kiger and the Nissan Magnite. Maruti Suzuki has announced to launch the production version of the eVX electric SUV in our market in late 2024. The new SUV will be produced at Suzuki’s Gujarat based production facility. Toyota will also introduce its own version of the eVX in our market in 2025. The new SUV will be based on an all-new skateboard platform, which will also underpin multiple Suzuki and Toyota electric vehicles. Internally known as 27PL, the new platform is expected to be derived from Toyota’s 40PL electric skateboard architecture.

The electric SUV will measure around 4.3 meters in length and will be positioned against the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV, Tata Nexon EV and others in the segment. It will come fitted with a 60kWh battery pack with a front-axle mounted electric motor. The new model is expected to offer a range of over 500kms on a single charge.

Toyota has announced to setup its 3rd production plant in Bidadi, Karnataka. This plant will produce brand’s upcoming 3-row SUV, which is expected to be launched sometime in 2025-26. The new Toyota 7-seater SUV will rival the likes of the Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV700 and others in its league. It will be based on the same TNGA-C platform that underpins the global Corolla Cross and the Innova Hycross. In fact, the new model is rumoured to be the 7-seater version of the Corolla Cross SUV. The wheelbase of the India-spec version is likely to ride on a 150mm longer wheelbase than the Corolla Cross (2,640mm). The new Toyota 340D 7-seater SUV is likely to share the engine options with the Innova Hycross including a 2.0-litre petrol with a strong hybrid tech and a 2.0-litre petrol. Japanese automaker is reportedly developing an all-new mini Land Cruiser, which is also expected to be launched in India. The small SUV is expected to be called the “Land Cruiser FJ”, and is likely to be the brand’s baby off-roader in the country. The new Cruiser FJ will have a boxy design and massive body cladding. In terms of proportions, the new compact LC will be around 4.35 meters that makes it similar to the Corolla Cross.  The new mini Land Cruiser FJ will be offered with both internal combustion and hybrid powertrains. It is expected to share the powertrains from globally popular Toyota models including the Corolla Cross, RAV4 and the Prius. The new off-roader SUV could be offered with an electric powertrain at a later stage.
