Top 10 Upcoming Electric SUVs In 2024 – 3 Tata, 2 Mahindra

The rising demand for SUVs have is clearly evident from the auto manufacturers line-up in the Indian market. Not just ICE, the future EVs for India will come with in the form of sports utility vehicles. In this article, we talk about the list of upcoming new electric SUVs in the Indian car market in 2024.

Tata Punch EV

Tata Motors has officially revealed the new Punch EV, which is expected to be launched in January-February 2024. Interested buyers can book this all-electric entry-level SUV online or at Tata’s pan-India dealerships by paying a token amount of Rs 21,000. It is based on an all-new acti.ev architecture, which will also underpin multiple new Tata EVs. The Tata Punch.ev will be offered in a total of 5 variants – Smart, Smart Plus, Adventure, Empowered and Empowered Plus.

The electric version will be offered with two battery pack options. The long range version will be made available in the top three variant levels. The Long-Range version is expected to come with 35kWh battery pack, while the entry-level version could get a 25kWh battery pack. The Medium Range version gets a 3.3kW AC charger, while the LR version gets a 7.2kW AC charger. The electric SUV can also support DC fast charging.

Maruti Suzuki eVX

Maruti Suzuki will introduce the production version of the eVX electric SUV in the Indian market before the end of this year. The e-SUV will be locally developed at Suzuki’s Gujarat based manufacturing plant. It will also be exported to several international markets including Europe. The company has confirmed that the new SUV will be locally made and will have a localised battery and motor. It will be based on an all-new skateboard platform, which is expected to be derived from Toyota’s 40PL electric skateboard architecture. The Suzuki eVX is likely to be offered with two battery options – a 48kWh and a 60kWh – offering close to 400km and 550km of range, respectively, on a single charge.

Hyundai Creta EV

The Korean automaker is reportedly to unveil the long-awaited Creta EV in India by the end of this year. It is expected that the electric SUV could go on sale in early 2025. It will be positioned against the Mahindra XUV400 and the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV and the Tata Curvv EV. It is likely to get a 45kWh battery pack sourced from LG Chem and a new-gen electric motor borrowed from the global-spec Kona EV. Positioned on the front axle, this motor is capable of offering 138hp and 255Nm of torque.

Mahindra XUV300 EV

The homegrown UV maker, Mahindra will introduce the facelifted XUV300 compact SUV in the country in the next couple of months. Adding to it, the company is also planning to introduce the EV derivative of the XUV300, which will be positioned below the XUV400. The new Mahindra XUV300 EV will rival tyhe Tata Nexon EV. It is likely to feature a front-axle mounted electric motor that draws power from a 35kWh battery pack. The new EV is likely to offer a range of around 375km on a single charge.

The homegrown UV maker has confirmed that its first Born electric SUV, based on the XUV.e8 concept will be launched by December 2024. It will be developed on the new born electric INGLO skateboard architecture, which is compatible with different powertrain options, wheelbase, track dimensions, and AWD & RWD layouts. Compared to the XUV700, the electric SUV is 45mm longer, 10mm wider and 5mm taller, and it has a 7mm longer wheelbase. It will come with a bigger battery pack based on two cell architectures – Blade and Prismatic. The SUV will be offered with RWD & AWD system. The powertrain is likely to offer a power output in the range of 230bhp to 350bhp.

Tata Curvv EV

Tata Motors will introduce the electric version of the Curvv SUV Coupe by mid-2024. The new Tata Curvv EV will rival the MG ZS EV, Mahindra XUV400 and the upcoming Maruti eVX and Hyundai Creta EV. It will be built upon Tata’s Generation 2 EV architecture (aka acti.ev platform), which is designed to accommodate various body styles and powertrains. This electric SUV Coupe will come with larger batteries, a dual motor setup and an AWD (All-Wheel-Drive) system. The electric version is likely to get a bigger battery pack, which is expected to offer a range of around 400-500km in a single charge.

Before launching the ICE version of the Curvv, Tata Motors will introduce the Harrier EV in the Indian market. Both Harrier EV and Safari EV have already been spotted testing multiple times on the Indian roads. The electric SUVs are likely to feature a battery pack of around 60kWh. It will be offered with front-wheel-drive layout as standard, while an optional dual-motor AWD setup will also be available. The electric SUVs are expected to offer a range of up to 500kms on a single charge.

The Korean brand has already confirmed that it will launch the new-gen Carnival and the EV9 electric SUV in India in 2024. This electric SUV is based on the skateboard architecture that underpins the EV6 on sale in our market. The 3-row SUV comes with multiple seating layout, depending on the variant. The India-spec model is expected to be offered with a 99.8kWh battery pack. The RWD long range model with rear axle mounted electric motor is rated at 160kW/350Nm. The AWD version has two electric motors that offer 283kW & 600Nm. It is claimed to offer a certified range of 541km on a single charge.

Skoda Enyaq iV

Czech automaker, Skoda will start its EV journey in India with its globally popular Enyaq iV electric SUV. Scheduled to be launched in 2024, the new model is most likely to be offered as CBU or CKD unit. It will come with a 77kWh battery pack that supports up to 125kW DC fast charging. It comes with dual motors, one on each axle, giving AWD (All-Wheel-Drive) setup and a total power worth 265bhp. It is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph in just 6.9 seconds. The model has a WLTP rated range of up to 513km.

Citroen C3 Aircross EV

The French automaker, Citroen is likely to launch the eC3 Aircross SUV in the Indian market before the end of 2024. It is based on the CMP (Common Modular Platform), which is compatible with both ICE and electric applications. The e-SUV is likely to receive a 50kWh battery pack and a front-axle mounted electric motor. The electric SUV is expected to offer a range of up to 400km on a single charge.
