Automakers have released their sales numbers for the month of December 2022. The sales numbers show mixed response for the automobile industry. While the sales for passenger vehicles were stable, the automakers have reported a drop on a month-on-month basis. There is a significant increase in demand for bigger sized, feature rich vehicles, and SUVs & MPVs contributed towards most part of sales volumes in the domestic market.
In fact, a total of 7 UVs including 5 sports utility vehicles are present in the list of top 10 selling cars in the month of December 2022. In this article, we talk about the top 10 selling SUVs in the country in the last month of CY2022.

– The Tata Nexon has been receiving an unprecedented response from buyers in the country. The compact SUV is maintaining its top position in the list of top 10 selling SUVs in the country. The company sold 12,053 units of the Nexon in December 2022 as against 12,899 units in the same month last year, reporting a decline of 7 percent.
– Maruti Brezza is at the second position with 11,200 units sold in December 2022 as against 9,531 units in the same month last year. The SUV has reported a YoY sales growth of 18 percent.
– Tata Punch micro SUV is at the third position in the list of top 10 selling SUVs in December 2022. The small SUV recorded an impressive sales number of 10,586 units reporting a YoY sales growth of 32%. In the same month last year, Tata Motors had delivered 8,008 units of the Punch.
– The Hyundai Creta slips to fourth position with 10,205 units sold last month. However, the SUV’s sales increased by 34% (YoY). In December 2021, Hyundai had dispatched 7,609 units of the Creta SUV. The Venue compact SUV is at 5th position with 8,285 units sold in December 2022 as against 10,360 units in same month last year, reporting a YoY decline of 20%.
– Mahindra Scorpio is at 6th position, while the 7th position is grabbed by Maruti Grand Vitara. Mahindra sold 7,003 units of the Scorpio SUV, reporting a massive 299% YoY sales growth. In the same period last year, Mahindra dispatched 1,757 Scorpio SUVs in the country. Maruti Suzuki has dispatched 6,171 units of the Grand Vitara in December 2022.
– Kia Seltos and Sonet are at 8th and 9th position with 5,995 units and 5,772 units sold respectively in December 2022. While the Seltos reported a YoY increase of 49%, the Sonet sales increased by good 61%.
– The Mahindra XUV700 is at 10th position with 5,623 units dispatched in December 2022 as against 3,980 units in the same month last year, reporting a YoY sales growth of 41%.
