Top 10 New Car Launches In 2022 – Citroen C3 To New Brezza

In this article, we bring you a list of top 10 most awaited new cars to be launched in the Indian market before the end of 2022. The list includes a wide range of new models starting from Citroen C3 to the new Hyundai Tucson.

1 New Maruti Brezza (Launch – April-June 2022)

After introducing the new Baleno, Maruti Suzuki is now ready to introduce the new Brezza in the Indian market. The new model will come with significant design changes and all-new interior along with few mechanical upgrades. The new model will come with advanced features such as electric sunroof, paddle shifters, cruise control, rear AC vents and others. It will be powered by the same 103bhp, 1.5L petrol engine with manual & a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox.

2. Citroen C3 (Launch – Q2, 2022)

The long-awaited Citroen C3 hatchback is currently in the first testing phase. It is scheduled to be launched in the second quarter of 2022. The new model will be based on the Stellantis CMP modular platform, which will also underpin Jeep’s future compact SUV. The new model will come as an affordable hatchback with SUV-like design elements. It will rival the likes of the Maruti Ignis, Tata Punch, Maruti Swift and others in its category. The Citroen C3 will be powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine with manual and DCT gearbox.

3. New Toyota Urban Cruiser (Launch – Mid-2022)

Toyota will also launch the new Urban Cruiser, which will also share the features with the new Brezza. The SUV will also receive design changes to differentiate itself from the donor SUV. It will have a new front fascia with typical Toyota grille and new bumpers. The cabin will have different upholstery and colour combinations. It will be offered with the same 1.5L petrol engine with mild hybrid tech.

4. New Mahindra Scorpio (Launch – Mid-2022)

The long-awaited new-gen Mahindra Scorpio will be launched by mid-2022, most probably in June. The new model will come with all-new design and feature-loaded interior along with new engine options. The SUV will grow in size and will offer forward-facing third-row seat. It will be offered with two engine options – a 2.0L turbo petrol and a 2.2L turbo-diesel. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

5. Maruti YFG SUV (Launch – Before Diwali)

Maruti Suzuki and Toyota JV is working on an all-new mid-sized SUV, which will be positioned against the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. The new Maruti YFG mid-sized SUV will be based on Toyota’s DNGA (Daihatsu New Generation Architecture) platform. Not just platform, the new mid-sized SUV will also share Toyota’s petrol hybrid powertrain.

6. Toyota D22 SUV (Launch – Before Diwali)

Toyota will also launch a new mid-sized SUV on the DNGA platform. Codenamed Toyota D22, the new SUV will rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the MG Astor. It will be equipped with several high-end features like a free standing touchscreen infotainment system, wireless connectivity features, a panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, etc. The SUV will also come with Toyota’s petrol hybrid powertrain.

7. Jeep Meridian (Launch – May 2022)

American SUV maker, Jeep will launch the 3-row Meridian SUV in May 2022. The new model will rival the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq and the upcoming Hyundai Tucson. The Jeep Meridian SUV will be manufactured at FCA’s Ranjangaon facility, which will also serve as a production hub for the right-hand-drive model. It is built on the Small Wide 4×4 platform that underpins the Compass & the Renegade. The Jeep Meridian 3-row SUV will be powered by the 2.0L MultiJet II diesel engine that powers the Compass. With Compass, this engine produces 173bhp and 350Nm of torque. It is expected that the engine will be calibrated to produce extra power, close to 200bhp. Transmission options could include a 6-speed manual and a 9-speed automatic.

8. Volkswagen Virtus (Launch – May 2022)

Volkswagen will launch the long-awaited Virtus sedan by May 2022. The new model is based on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB AO IN platform that underpins the Skoda Slavia, VW Taigun & the Skoda Kushaq. The new model will share the features with the Slavia & the Taigun. It will rival the likes of the Hyundai Verna, Honda City & the Maruti Ciaz. The new model will be offered with two engine options – a 113bhp, 1.0L TSI petrol and a 147bhp, 1.5L TSI petrol.

9. New Hyundai Tucson (Launch – End of 2022)

Hyundai has started testing the new generation Tucson SUV in the country. The new model is reportedly to be offered as a 3-row SUV. The new model will rival the likes of the VW Tiguan, Citroen C5 Aircross & Jeep Compass. The SUV has 80mm longer wheelbase, while the overall length has been increased by 150mm. The India-spec model is likely to be offered with the same 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and diesel engine that powers the outgoing model.

10. New Honda City Hybrid (Launch – Mid-2022)

The long-awaited Honda City hybrid is reportedly near production ready and will be launched by mid-2022. The new Honda City hybrid will be one of the most fuel efficient cars in India. It is likely to offer mileage close to 27kmpl. The new City hybrid comes equipped with a 1.5-litre petrol engine that runs a more efficient ‘Atkinson Cycle’. The petrol engine pushes out 98bhp of power, while the electric motor offers 109bhp. The vehicle offers a maximum torque of 253bhp; the petrol engine offers 127Nm and the electric motor offers 253Nm. It is 0.5 seconds quicker than the regular City sedan.
