Top 10 Car Companies April 2022 – Maruti No.1, Tata No.3

Automakers continue to face the semi-conductor chips and parts shortage in India. This is evident from the sales numbers for the month of April 2022. While the YOY sales increased by 2.35 per cent in April 2022, the MOM sales dropped by 8.83 per cent.

While Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai sales declined by close to 10 per cent, Tata Motors, Toyota, Skoda and Volkswagen reported a massive sales growth. In this article, we talk about the top 10 car manufacturers in terms of sales in the month of April 2022.

1. Maruti Suzuki

Maruti Suzuki sold 1,21,995 cars in April 2022, recording a Year-On-Year sales decline of 10.22 per cent. Adding to it, the Indo-Japanese brand has also recorded a Month-On-Month sales decline of 8.86 per cent. The company is planning to introduce a wide range of new SUVs in the Indian market. MSIL will launch the new Brezza, a new mid-sized SUV, new Jimny and an all-new YTB Crossover SUV in 2022-23.

2. Hyundai

The Korean carmaker continues to face semi-conductor chips and parts shortage, which is evident from its constant sales decline. The company reports a sales decline of 10 per cent in April 2022. Hyundai sold  44,001 cars in April 2022 as against 49,002 cars in the same month last year. The company had sold 44,600 cars in March 2022, as the Month-On-Month sales decline is marginal. The company will launch the new Creta facelift, Venue facelift, the updated Kone EV, Ioniq 5 pure EV and the next-gen Tucson SUV.

3. Tata Motors

In the passenger vehicle segment, Tata Motors recorded a massive YOY sales growth of 66 per cent. The homegrown automaker sold 41,587 passenger cars in April 2022 as against 25,095 units in the same month last year. However, the company’s MoM sales declined marginally by 1.67%. The company will launch the new Nexon EV with long range of May 11. Adding to it, Tata Motors will also update its entire line-up in the next few months.

4. Mahindra

Mahindra has reported a year-on-year sales growth of 23 percent. The company sold 22,536 units in April 2022 as against 18,186 cars in the same month last year. The brand’s month-on-month sales declined by 18.39 per cent.

5. Kia

Kia Carens Styling

The Korean automaker reported a sales growth of 18 per cent in the month of April 2022. The company sold 19,019 units last month as against 16,111 units sold in the corresponding month last year. The company sold 7,506 and 5,754 units of Seltos and the Carens respectively. Kia also sold 5,404 units of the Sonet in the month of April 2022.

6. Toyota

Toyota has also reported a massive sales growth of 57% in the month of April 2022. The company sold 15,085 cars in April 2022 as against 9,600 cars in the same month last year. However, Toyota’s MoM sales declined by 11.94%. The company delivered 17,131 cars in March 2022.

7. Honda

Honda sold 7,874 cars in the month of April 2022 as against 9,072 units in the same month last year. The company reported a year-on-year sales decline of 13.21 percent. However, brand’s MoM sales improved by 19.5 percent.

8. Renault

Renault Kiger 2022 Launched

The French automaker has reported a year-on-year sales decline of 12.13 per cent in the month of April 2022. The company sold 7,594 cars last month as against 8,642 units in the same month last year.

9. Skoda

Skoda Auto India has reported a Year-On-Year sales growth of 436 per cent in April 2022. The company sold 5,152 cars in the month of April 2022 compared to the 961 units in the same month last year. Skoda has received over 10,000 bookings for the Slavia within a month of launch.

10. Volkswagen

New Volkswagen Taigun front

Volkswagen has sold 3,547 cars in April 2022 as against 1,533 cars in the same month last year. The company’s year-on-year sales increased by 131.38 per cent.
