Maruti Suzuki is looking to launch a bunch of new and updated models this year. The second-generation Brezza and all-new mid-size SUV will be the two big launches from the Indo-Japanese carmaker. While the former is reported to hit roads in May, the latter is likely to arrive during 2022 Diwali season. The new Maruti SUV (codenamed – YFG) will take on the segment leader – the Hyundai Creta – along with the Kia Seltos and MG Astor. Here’re 6 key details of Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming model that we know so far.

– The Maruti YFG will be the first production model to come under Suzuki and Toyota’s joint venture. Its production will take place at Toyota’s Bidadi facility (Number 2) in Karnataka. The model’s trail production is reported to begun at the plant.

– Interestingly, the new Maruti SUV will be designed on the modified and localized version of Toyota TNGA-B platform. Globally, the Japanese automaker uses this architecture in the B-segment or sub-4 metre vehicles. It supports both FWD and AWD systems.

– In order to achieve competitive pricing and reduce production cost, the YFG will be built using suppliers from both companies. While Maruti Suzuki will be responsible for the component supply, Toyota will take care of some important system.

– In terms of design and styling, the upcoming Maruti and Toyota mid-size SUVs will be different. The Maruti YFG will carry a differently designed bumpers and alloy wheels. Its front grille will be bigger than Toyota’s new SUV, though its air intake will be smaller. Both models will feature LED headlamps with high mounted LED DRLs.

– The new Maruti SUV is likely to come with some segment-first and advanced features such as a panoramic sunroof, a large touchscreen infotainment system, a Heads-Up display, ventilated front seats and connected car tech.

– Reports suggest that Maruti YFG could be offered with two petrol hybrid engine options – 12V and 48V. Similar to the global-spec Vitara, it might get a 1.5L K15C naturally aspirated petrol engine with an electric motor. The motor sources its power from a 140V lithium-ion battery pack.
