1. Maruti Suzuki Celerio – 26.68kmpl
Maruti Suzuki had launched the second generation Celerio hatchback with a new dualjet petrol engine. The hatchback became the most fuel efficient petrol car on sale in the country. The Celerio AMT is claimed to return an ARAI certified fuel economy of 26.68kmpl, while the manual model returns 25.24kmpl.
It is powered by a 1.0-litre Dualjet K10 petrol engine that churns out 67bhp and 89Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual and an AMT unit.
2. Honda City e:HEV – 26.5kmpl
Honda has recently unveiled the new City e:HEV hybrid variant for the Indian market. The new model is claimed to return a certified fuel economy of 26.5kmpl, making it India’s second most fuel efficient car (Petrol Segment).
The new City e:HEV comes with a 1.5L 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated Atkinson Cycle petrol engine paired to two electric motors. While the gasoline motor makes a claimed power of 98bhp with 127Nm, the electric motor delivers 109bhp with 253Nm from 0 rpm. The City Hybrid has a 0.734kWh lithium-ion battery that weighs 14.5kgs. The model has a single, fixed-gear ratio. There are three drive modes – Engine Drive (running only on petrol engine), EV Drive (running only on electric motors) and Hybrid Drive (running on a combination of both).
3. Maruti Wagon R AMT – 25.19kmpl
Maruti Suzuki Wagon R is offered with two petrol engines – a 1.0L NA petrol and a 1.2L NA petrol. Adding to it, the tall-boy hatchback is also available with a CNG option that is claimed to return 34.05km/kg. The WagonR 1.0L with AMT gearbox is claimed to return an ARAI certified mileage of 25.19kmpl, while the manual version returns 24.35kmpl.
4. Maruti Dzire AMT – 24.12kmpl
Maruti Suzuki had introduced the updated Dzire last year. It comes with a new 1.2L Dualjet K12N petrol engine with a start-stop function. This model is is capable of producing 90bhp and 113Nm of torque. Both manual and AMT gearbox options are on offer. In fact, the AMT variant is more fuel efficient than the manual version. The Dzire AMT returns 24.12kmpl, while the manual delivers 23.26kmpl.
5. Maruti Swift AMT – 23.76kmpl
Similar to the Dzire, the new Swift also gets the new 90bhp, 1.2L Dualjet petrol engine with idle-start stop tech. The AMT version is claimed to return an ARAI certified fuel economy of 23.76kmpl, while the manual delivers 23.2kmpl.
6. Toyota Glanza or Maruti Baleno – 22.94kmpl
Maruti Suzuki has recently introduced the new Baleno hatchback with more features and a new 1.2L Dualjet petrol engine. Instead of CVT, the new Baleno & Glanza get an AMT gearbox option. The AMT version returns 22.94kmpl, while the manual offers 22.35kmpl.
7. Maruti Alto – 22.05kmpl
Maruti Suzuki Alto is one of the most fuel efficient cars on sale in the country. It gets a 0.8, 3-cylinder petrol engine that produces 47bhp and 69Nm of torque. The Alto manual version is claimed to return an ARAI certified fuel economy of 22.05kmpl.
8. Renault Kwid AMT & Datsun Redigo AMT – 22kmpl
Renault Kwid and Datsun Redigo are based on the same CMF low-cost platform. Not just platform, both models share the engine and gearbox options. The hatchbacks are offered with two engine options – 0.8L and 1.0L. The 0.8L MT version delivers 20.71kmpl, 1.0L MT returns 21.74kmpl and 1.0L AMT delivers an ARAI certified mileage of 22kmpl.
9. Maruti S-Presso – 21.7kmpl
Maruti Suzuki S-Presso is the brand’s entry-level tall-boy hatchback with crossover looks. The small car is powered by a 1.0L 3-cylinder petrol engine that produces 67bhp and 90Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT. Both variants are claimed to return an ARAI certified fuel economy of 21.7kmpl.
