Thailand’s Royal Thai Army To Use Tata Military Trucks

The Royal Thai Army is in the process of purchasing over 600 Tata LPTA military trucks. Chutintorn Sam Gongsakdi, Ambassador of Thailand to India, said that Tata military trucks are “rugged and easy to maintain”. Appreciating the Tata trucks, he said that these vehicles are capable enough to meet the Royal Thai Army requirements and deploy for service of the nation. Just so you know, the Tata LPTA military trucks are available in five configurations – 4X4, 6X6, 8X8, 10X10 and 12X12. These vehicles have always been favoured for their high-operational flexibility, off-road performance and functional adaptability and of-course the brand’s reliability. Jabalpur Vehicle Factory serves as production hub for these capable off-roaders.

The home-grown carmaker won its first contract for delivering over 1,200 LPTA 6X6 trucks to the Indian Army in 2015, followed by over 600 units in 2016. With worth Rs 1300 crores, it was the biggest order for any local private supplier in the country. At present, over 10,000 Tata trucks are serving the Indian Army. Sporting cab over engine modular design, the Tata LPTA military trucks can accommodate four passengers and two crew. Its two roof hatches can be used for observation, firing and emergency exit. Interestingly, the trucks have Central tyre inflation system that (CTIS) that controls the tyres’ pressure to improve their performance on different terrains. Some of its other key features include self recover winch at the front, HVAC system, 9-way adjustable seats and more.

Powering the Tata LPTA 6X6 and 8X8 variants is a Cummis ISLe engine that’s good for 375bhp. The 12X12 variant comes with a Cummins ISXe motor pushing power a maximum power of 525bhp and a massive 2000Nm of torque at 1,200rpm. The trucks come with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. These vehicles have capabilities to carry 33,000 kgs of cargo and offer fuel tank capacity of 400-litres.
