Tata’s new entry level hatchback in the works
We reported earlier that Tata Motors is readying a wide range of new models, which will be based on the ALFA modular platform. The new ALFA platform is compatible enough to accommodate different body styles measuring between 3.7m to 4.3m, and engine options. The company will launch an all-new 7-seater MPV, a mid-sized sedan, a compact sedan and an all-new H2X concept based mini SUV.
A new media report claims that the homegrown automaker is also readying a new entry-level tall-boy hatchback, which will be based on the ALFA platform. To be positioned alongside the Tiago, the new entry-level model will directly challenge the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R.
The new entry-level hatchback will share most of the components and engine options with the Tiago and the H2X. It is likely to receive a BSVI compliant 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine, which will be compliant with BSVI emission norms. Transmission choices are likely to include a 5-speed manual and an AMT unit.
The entry-level model is expected to be priced aggressively and could undercut its direct rivals including the Maruti Wagon R and the Hyundai Santro. The new model is likely to arrive in 2021-22. Besides the new tall boy hatchback, Tata is also readying a sub-4 meter sedan. The new compact sedan will be positioned above the Tigor and will challenge the likes of the Maruti Dzire, Honda Amaze and the Hyundai Aura.
Tata Motors is all set to launch the much-awaited Altroz premium hatchback in the country on January 22, 2020. The new model will take on the likes of the Maruti Baleno, Hyundai i20 and the Honda Jazz. The company will also launch the Gravitas 7-seater premium SUV, updated Harrier and the H2X micro SUV in India this year.
