Tata’s Hyundai Creta Rival SUV – Launch Timeline, Key Features

Tata Motors is all set to tap the highly-competitive mid-size SUV segment that’s currently dominated by Hyundai Creta. The model will be based on the Tata Curvv that made its India debut at the recently-concluded Auto Expo. The name of the production-ready version will be different and it will be ready to hit roads in 2024. Here, Tata’s new mid-size SUV will also take on the Maruti Grand Vitara, Kia Seltos, Toyota Hyryder and Honda’s upcoming SUV.

The Curvv concept has been based on Tata’s Generation 2 (aka Sigma) architecture that’s compatible to different bodystyles and powertrains. The Gen 2 platform is essentially the heavily modified version of Tata’s existing platform. It can accommodate bigger batteries and support a dual motor setup with AWD (all-wheel drive) system. The carmaker has confirmed that the Tata Curvv will be made available with petrol and electric powertrain options.

While its official specifications are yet to be revealed, the new Tata SUV is likely to come with the brand’s new 1.2L turbo petrol motor. It’s a 3-cylinder unit that delivers a claimed power of 125PS and 225Nm of torque. The model lineup might come with a 6-speed manual and a dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The Tata Curvv electric SUV might come with a 60kWh battery pack and offer a range around 500km.

Featuring Tata’s ‘New Digital’ design language, the Curvv SUV will have a sloping roofline, squared-off wheel arches, strong shoulder line and notchback-styled boot. Inside, there will be a three-layer dashboard, a LED strip running the width of the cabin, two free-standing digital screens (one for the infotainment system and one for the instrument cluster), a panoramic sunroof and a floating centre console with rotary gear selector, centre armrest and climate control switches in between. The SUV’s petrol version might have slight differences in layout than the electric iteration.
