Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder Recalled In India

Maruti Suzuki has voluntarily issued a recall of 11,177 units of the Grand Vitara SUV over faulty seat belt mountings. The recall exercise includes units that were manufactured between 8th August 2022 and 15th November 2022. The company says that there could be a possible defect in rear seat belt mounting brackets. In the long run usage, it might loosen or impact its functionality.

Owners of the affected Maruti Grand Vitara units will be contacted by Maruti Suzuki’s authorised dealer workshops for inspection and replacement of the affected parts. The replacement of the faulty seat belt mountings will be done at free of cost. Customers will have to visit their nearest Maruti Suzuki service centre. Toyota Kirloskar Motor has also issued a recall for 4,026 units of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV in the country. The company says, units that were manufactured between 8th August 2022 and 15th November 2022 had a faulty rear seat belt assembly, and have been recalled for replacement. Toyota will contact owners of the affected SUVs, in order to carry out the replacement of the part. Customers can also visit their nearest Toyota dealerships or service centers. The entire inspection and replacement process will be free of cost.

The new Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder come with two engine options – a 103hp, 1.5-litre K15C petrol mild-hybrid and a 92bhp, 1.5L, three-cylinder Atkinson cycle petrol. The strong hybrid version has an electric motor pushing out a peak power of 79bhp and 141Nm of torque. It comes with an e-CVT automatic gearbox and returns a combined power of 115bhp.

The mild hybrid powertrain is available with two gearboxes – a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. The AWD system is exclusively offered on the top-end mild-hybrid manual variants of the SUVs. It delivers a claimed mileage of 21.11kpl with manual gearbox, 20.58kpl with automatic gearbox and 19.38kpl with manual-AWD combination. The strong hybrid setup promises a fuel efficiency of 27.97kmpl.
