Tata Motors has recently revealed the new Curvv all-elecric SUV Coupe concept. The production version of the SUV Coupe is scheduled to be launched in 2024. It will also receive petrol & diesel engine options. A new media report claims that Tata will launch 2 new electric cars before introducing the new Tata Curvv Electric.
The new electric cars will be based on the existing ICE models. Speaking to Zigwheels, Shailesh Chandra, MD, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles said that before the Curvve there will be more products in the Gneration 3 platforms that are already existing as an ICE model. The platform will be modified to adapt electrification and will more differentiated elements for the EV.
In the current Nexon EV and Tigor EV, Tata engineers simply fitted electric powertrain by removing the petrol/diesel powertrain. The new electric cars will be based on GEN 2 platform. The company will make changes to the body structure and flow to accommodate more battery packs to utilise the reduction in battery prices and improve the range. It is expected that the new Tata EVs will have a flat floor setup.
The new Tata EVs will receive significant design changes and all-new interior. Adding to it, the new electric cars will have more features and receive aerodynamic changes. The company had showcased the production-spec Altroz EV at the 2020 Auto Expo. This model had tweaks to the front and a different set of alloy wheels. The GEN 2 platform is compatible with ICE as well as electric powertrain options.
Tata has not revealed the name of these two electric cars. It is expected to be based on the Altroz hatchback and Punch micro SUV. The new Altroz EV is expected to be launched before the end of 2022. The new Punch based EV could be launched in 2023 and is expected to be the most affordable EV in the country.
