New Tata Curvv SUV Coupe Unveiled – Based On Modified Nexon Platform

Tata Motors has officially revealed the new Tata Curvv Concept in the Indian market. The SUV Coupe concept will be launched as an electric vehicle first. Tata has officially announced to launch the petrol and diesel versions of the Curvv at a later stage.

Tata Motors hasn’t released the powertrain details of the new Tata Curvv. It is based on the Tata’s X1 platform that underpins the Nexon range. The platform has been modified to accommodate bigger model and different battery packs. The new model will sit above the Nexon EV and will measure above 4 meters in length. The SUV Coupe is likely to measure 4.3 meters in length and will ride on a longer wheelbase.

The new model comes with all-new design, featuring a more prominent and EV-like front fascia. The LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lamps) running across the width on the bonnet crease through the side and ending into the ORVMs. The company claims that the Tata Curvv has new design language that will be seen in future Tata SUV models. It gets split headlamp setup with main headlights are placed on the lower bumper. The headlamp unit is encased in a triangle shaped housing.

The SUV gets a completely different side profile compared to the Nexon EV. The big changes are made post the B-pillar. The SUV Coupe will ride on bigger wheels. It gets longer doors, tapering roof, and all-new rear profile with a larger overhang.

The rear profile of the concept looks aggressive with massive blacked-out lower bumper and prominent tailgate. It gets a uniquely styled LED tail-lights. The LED unit runs across the width of the tailgate. The concept also gets lighting strip across the gass area. Compared to the Nexon, the new mid-sized SUV Coupe is expected to offer more rear seat legroom and bigger boot.

The Tata Curvv concept comes with all-new interior, featuring a clutter-free dashboard design. The dashboard is dominated by a bigger free-standing touchscreen infotainment unit. The touch panel is visible on the centre console, which will be used to control AC and other functions. The central tunnel has a circular button for gearshifts. The SUV gets newly styled steering wheel with glossy black finish. It has a fully digital instrument console.

The company hasn’t release the powertrain options. The electric version is likely to get a larger 40kWh battery pack with range over 400kms. It will enjoy the tax benefits offered on the EVs, a flat 5% GST. It will rival the likes of the MG ZS EV and the Hyundai Kona EV.

The ICE version is likely to be powered by a new 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which is currently under development. This 4-cylinder turbocharged engine is likely to produce around 160bhp of power. It will first introduce in the Safari and the Harrier. The diesel model is likely to receive the 110bhp, 1.5L turbo engine that powers the Nexon. This engine will be tuned to meet the tougher emission norms in 2023.

The Tata Curvv ICE version will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, VW Taigun and the Skoda Kushaq. The EV will challenge the MG ZS EV and the Hyundai Kona EV.
