Tata Tiago EV To Get Expensive From January 2023

Tata Motors had launched the new Tiago EV in the country at the end of November 2022. The electric hatchback was launched at an introductory price tag of Rs 8.49 lakh – 11.49 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom, India). The company is all set to increase the prices of the Tiago EV by three to four percent. It is expected that the electric hatchback could get pricier by up to Rs 30,000-35,000.

At the time of launch, Tata Motors had announced that the introductory prices were valid for the first 10,000 customers only. The electric hatchback has received an overwhelming response from buyers, as it recorded over 20,000 bookings in less than 1 month. The introductory prices were extended to the first 20,000 customers as the Tiago EV.

Speaking to AutoCarIndia, Shailesh Chandra, MD of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles & Tata Passengers Electric Mobility said that the price hike is not just related to the introductory prices. Another factor behind the price hike is that “battery prices have increased by 30-35 percent, and it is not fully passed on to the buyers.”

The Tata Tiago EV currently contributes to 30 to 35 percent of all Tiago bookings. Deliveries for the Tiago EV are scheduled to commence by mid-January. Tata aims to complete delivery of the first batch of the EV within 4 to 5 months. It is reported that Tata Motors is aiming to increase production of its electric vehicles to 1 lakh unit per year.
