Tata Motors has officially announced that the Tiago CNG and the Tigor CNG will be launched on January 19, 2022. Tata dealers have also started accepting pre-orders at the token amount of Rs 5,000 to Rs 20,000. The CNG passenger vehicle segment is currently dominated by Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai.
The CNG versions of the Tiago and the Tigor are not likely to receive any major design changes; except for the new CNG badging on the tailgate. The company is yet to announce the variant details. It is expected that the CNG kit will be offered on the entry-level and mid-level variants of the existing variants.
The Tata Tiago and the Tigor are powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Revotron petrol engine that produces 85bhp and 113Nm of torque. The CNG versions are most likely to retain the same engine setup; however, power and torque figures are likely to see a marginal drop.
The same 1.2L engine is likely to produce around 70-75bhp power and close to 100Nm of torque.While the petrol versions are offered with manual and AMT gearbox options, the CNG versions will only be offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The Tata Tigor will be the only sedan in our market to be offered in petrol, CNG and electric versions. The CNG powered Tigor will rival the Hyundai Aura CNG. Adding to it, MSIL will also launch the CNG version of the Dzire. The Tata Tiago CNG will rival the Hyundai Santro CNG and the Maruti Wagon R CNG.
