Hyundai Ioniq 5 Electric Car India Launch This Year

Hyundai has recently showcased the Ioniq 5 electric crossover at the inaugural event of its new corporate headquarters at Gurgaon. It is reported that the Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV will be launched in the country in 2022; however, exact launch date or month is yet to be announced.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV will come as a CBU (Completely Built Unit) and is likely to be priced somewhere around Rs 45 lakh to Rs 60 lakh. This electric crossover is developed on the brand’s EV dedicated – E-GMP or Electric Global Modular platform. The Ioniq 5 is the first product based on this platform, which will also underpin the Ioniq 6.

Hyundai has already announced to bring this platform in India. Moreover, the company plans to have 6 electric vehicles in its portfolio by 2028. The Korean automaker will also launch the updated version of the Kona EV in 2022. Adding to it, the next-gen Tucson and the Creta facelift will also arrive in our market.

Due to the EV-dedicated platform, the wheels on the Ioniq 5 are placed on the corners, resulting into a longer wheelbase and more cabin space. Moreover, there is no hump in the middle that further improves the comfort levels for the middle occupant in the second row seat.

In the global markets, the Hyundai Ioniq is offered with two battery sizes – 72.6kWh and 58kWh. Both comes with rear-wheel or all-wheel-drive layouts. The 72.6kWh battery version is claimed to offer a maximum range of around 470-480kms. It supports 800V battery technology, which gives ultra-rapid charging. The Ioniq 5 is compatible with up to 220kW DC charging, which allows the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes.

The top-spec Hyundai Ioniq 5 crossover features a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive layout that offers a combined power of 306bhp and a peak torque of 605Nm. The crossover is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph in just 5.2 seconds before hitting a top speed of 185kmph. The entry-level variant with 58kWh battery has a 169bhp, single motor. This rear-wheel-drive model accelerates to 100kmph from zero in just 8.5 seconds.
