Tata Targets 10,000 Monthly EV Sales; Unveils Ambitious Plan

2023 Tata Harrier

Tata Motors recently announced a significant achievement, crossing the milestone of selling over 1 lakh electric vehicles (EVs) in the country. This accomplishment has been reached within a span of 5 years. During the first quarter of FY24, the indigenous automaker successfully sold approximately 19,000 electric cars, including the Tiago EV, Tigor EV, and Nexon EV (Max and Prime variants).

The company now has higher sales expectations and aims to introduce the next 1 lakh EVs within the next 12-14 months, with a target of monthly sales reaching 10,000 EVs. In pursuit of this goal, Tata Motors has outlined plans for the launch of 10 new electric vehicle models by 2025. The automaker envisions achieving a 50% penetration of zero-emission vehicles by the year 2030.

Tata Punch EV Launch

Let’s delve into the upcoming Tata electric cars briefly. The home-grown automaker has recently confirmed the development of four new EVs, all of which are slated to debut by early 2024. The first model set to launch will be the updated Tata Nexon EV, expected to hit the market by September 2023. This electric subcompact SUV is likely to retain its existing powertrains while incorporating noticeable changes inspired by the Tata Curvv concept, both inside and out.

Following the Nexon EV facelift, Tata will introduce the Harrier EV. This vehicle was initially showcased in its concept form at this year’s Auto Expo. Built on Tata’s Gen2 (SIGMA) platform, which represents a heavily modified version of the Omega architecture, the Harrier EV will feature design highlights such as a new blacked-out grille, split headlamps with a new LED light bar, a revised bumper, and angular creases.

Equipped with a battery pack of around 60kWh, the Harrier EV will also come with an all-wheel drive (AWD) system and will offer V2L (vehicle-to-load) and V2V (vehicle-to-vehicle) charging capabilities. Its estimated range is set to be around 400-500km. Following the Harrier EV, the Tata Punch EV is scheduled to be available for sale by early 2024.
