Tata Safari – Which Variant Offers The Most Value?

In recent years, Tata Motors’ PV sales have rapidly improved thanks to its SUV portfolio, which includes Punch, Nexon, Harrier, and the flagship Safari. Since its launch in February last year, Tata Motors has continuously updated its Safari SUV to keep it up with the increasing competition.

Here is an overview of what’s on offer in each variant of the Tata Safari so you can decide which of its variant is best suited to your requirements. But before we start, first have a look at its dimensions and specifications: –

Tata Safari – Engine Specifications

Engine2-litre turbocharged diesel
No of Cylinders4
Max Power170PS at 3750rpm
Max Torque350Nm at 1750-2500rpm
Transmission6-speed manual/torque converter automatic
DrivetrainFWD
Real-World Fuel Efficiency≈ 10-11kmpl in City and ≈ 14-16kmpl on Highways

The Tata Safari is driven by the same Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine that also powers the MG Hector/Hector Plus and Jeep Compass. It has good low-end torque that makes getting off easy. It gains speed quickly, especially in Sport mode, and maintains momentum. However, the long throw and heavy clutch make things a bit difficult, especially in bumper-to-bumper traffic. However, the Hyundai-sourced torque converter automatic transmission has been tuned beautifully, making the shifts fast.

Dimensions

The Tata Safari measures 4661mm in length, 1894mm in width, and 1786mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2741mm and a ground clearance of 205mm. It comes in both 6 and 7-seater configurations, but the former is only available with the XZ+ variant of the SUV.
