Nissan X-Trail, Qashqai, Juke Electric Hybrid Unveiled – All Key Details

Nissan India today showcased its three global SUVs at an event in Delhi. The model lineup includes Nissan X-Trail, Nissan Qashqai and Nissan Juke. The carmaker has confirmed that it begins testing the X-Trail and Qashqai SUVs in India for future feasibility. The vehicles’ assessment takes place as part of wide-ranging study for the next phase of Nissan in the Indian market. Once testing will be done, the Nissan X-Trail will be the brand’s first global SUV to go on sale, followed by other models.

Nissan X-Trail underpins the heavily updated version of Renault-Nissan Mitsubishi Alliance’s CMF-C crossover platform. The Qashqai SUV has also been designed on the same architecture. The X-Trail comes with the 1.5L turbo petrol and 1.5L turbo petrol with second-generation e-Power series hybrid tech powertrain options. Interestingly, Nissan’s e-Power system uses the petrol motor to charge the battery that delivers powers to an electric motor connected to the front axle. While the SUV’s hybrid version comes with the 4WD (four-wheel drive), the non-hybrid model has FWD (front-wheel drive) system. The X-Trail can be had with a CVT automatic gearbox. It offers three drive modes, namely, Mud, Snow and Gravel. Some of its key design elements include an angular grille flaked by LED headlamps with LED DRLs, flared rear wheel arches and slim wraparound taillamps.

The third-generation Nissan Qashqai carries the brand’s new V-Motion chrome grille surround and new boomerang-shaped LED matrix headlamps at the front. Compared to its previous generation, the new one is longer, wider, taller and has longer wheelbase. In terms of features, the Nissan Qashqai offers a free-standing 9.0-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.8-inch Head-Up Display (HUD), Nissan Connect smartphone and Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa for voice control functionality.

Powertrain setup of the Qashqai SUV includes a 1.3L turbo petrol engine with a 12V mild hybrid system. The gasoline unit makes 140bhp/156bhp with 270Nm of torque. It comes paired to an Xtronic CVT automatic transmission. The SUV has an optional 4WD system. The SUV is also available with ePower powertrain that includes a 156bhp, 1.5L petrol engine and a 140kW electric motor for ‘self-charging’ functionality.

The Nissan Juke derives its power from a 1.0L, 3-cylinder engine that’s good enough for 115bhp and 200Nm (with overboost). It can do 0 t0 100kmph in 10.4 seconds. The SUV comes with two gearbox options – a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic with a paddle shifter. Inside, the Juke has an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with the latest smartphone connectivity, TomTom lamps and Live Traffic for navigation.

The info system works with Nissan’s connect and provides in-car WiFi. The SUV has a Bose audio system with speakers integrated in the front headrest. An optional dual-tone Alcantara upholstery is also on offer. The Nissan Juke sits on the band’s CMF-B platform that’s lighter (by 23kgs) than its predecessor. It also makes it more spacious than before.
