Tata Safari 2021 Unveiled: Interior, Specs, Variants, Dimensions, Features

The much-anticipated new-gen Tata Safari 2021 has finally been unveiled in India. The new model is basically the 7-seater version of the Harrier SUV, which was first showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo as the Tata Gravitas. It will rival the Mahindra XUV500 and the MG Hector Plus. Bookings for the new model will commence from February 4, 2021.

New Tata Safari 2021 Variants

The new model is available in 6 variants – XE, XM, XT, XT+, XZ and XZ+.

XE Trim – it comes equipped with tilt & telescopic adjustable steering wheel, projector headlamps, dual airbags, ESP, hill hold control, roll over mitigation, all disc brakes and Boss mode.

XM Trim (Features Over XE) – Multi drive modes, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 6 speakers, steering mounted controls, front fog lamps, rear wiper washer and follow-me home headlamps.

XT Variant (Features Over XM)- 8 speakers, FATC with HVAC, Rain sensing wipers, auto headlamps, electrically adjustable & Foldable ORVMs, push button start, 18-inch alloy wheels, Ambient mood lighting, TPMS, auto dimming IRVM, IRA connected features.

XZ Variant (Features Over XT) – Xenon HD projector headlamps, front fog lamps with cornering function, 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 9-JBL speakers with a subwoofer & amplifier, instrument console with 7-inch colour TFT display, curtain + side airbags, hill descent control, 6 way powered driver’s seat with adjustable lumbar support, electronic parking brake with auto hold, 18-inch machined alloys, captain seats, etc.

6-and 7-seat Option

The new generation Tata Safari 2021 is offered in 6-and 7-seat layouts. The 6-seater version comes with captain seats for the second row, while the 7-seater Safari comes with a bench-type seat.

New Tata Safari Launch Date

The new Tata Safari 2021 is the second model to be based on the OMEGA (Optimal Modular Efficient Global Architecture), which is sourced from Land Rover’s D8 architecture. Powering the new Safari is a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that also powers the Harrier. Called the Kryotec diesel engine, this powertrain produces 170bhp of power and 350Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a Hyundai-sourced 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

Dimensions

The new Safari measures 4,661mm in length, 1,894mm in width and 1,786mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,741mm. It is 63mm longer, 72mm wider and 80mm taller than the Harrier. The SUV will have a ground clearance of 200mm.

Connected Car Features

The new Tata Safari 2021 also comes equipped with connected car technology. The connected car features are divided into 5 categories – Safety & Security, Remote Commands, Alerts & Notification, Over the Air updates and Health check. The iRA, ConnectNext and What3Words can be downloaded from the App store or the play store free, and will have a validity period of 1 year.

The connected car features include Remote Lock/Unlock, Remote Lights On/Off, Unauthorised car access alert, Remote immobilisation when car is stolen, alerts on critical car parameters, valet mode, view trip details, etc. It also gives details about nearest TML (Tata Motors Limited) service station/Roadside assistance.

The new Tata Safari 2021 is equipped with several safety and security features such as ABS with EBD, cornering stability control, off-road ABS, traction control, ESC (Electronic Stability Control), hill hold control, hill descent control, roll-over mitigation, dynamic wheel torque by brake, EDTC (Engine Drag Torque Control), EBP (Electronic Brake Pre-fill), HBA (Hydraulic Brake Assist) and HFC (Hydraulic Fading Compensation).

Design & Interior

Tata Safari 2021 Interior

The new Tata Safari 2021 has similar front looks as the Harrier SUV; however, there are some design changes to keep things fresh. It has taller stance along with sport running boards and bigger alloys. The height of the new SUV has been raised and the rear has more upright position to create more space for third-row passenger. It comes with revised tail-lamps and boot lid along with larger windshield and prominent rear spoiler. The new Tata Safari comes with slimmer grille, sleek LED DRLs and split headlamp setup. It gets stepped roof, upright tailgate with roof spoiler, new roof rails and revised rear profile.

The cabin looks similar to the Harrier, featuring an 8.8-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system and similar dashboard design. It gets the same semi-digital instrument console, panoramic sunroof, electronic parking brake and connected car technology, and auto-dimming IRVMs.
