The newly introduced Tata Punch subcompact SUV has achieved a five star rating in global NCAP crash tests. The Punch is the latest made-in-India product to achieve the 5 Stars crash test rating; joining the likes of the Altroz, Nexon and the Mahindra XUV300.
The SUV received 5 stars for adult protection and four stars for child occupant protection in Global NCAP’s latest #SaferCarsForIndia crash tests. It becomes the third Tata car to secure highest safety points in Global NCAP. The small SUV scored 16.45 points out of a maximum of 17 for adult protection. It scored 40.89 points out of a maximum of 49 points in child safety.
The tested Tata Punch was equipped with basic safety features including two airbags, ABS and ISOFIX anchorages. GLOBAL NCAP stated that the small SUV can be further improved by adding the standard Electronic Stability Control (ESC), side head impact protection systems as standard, and 3 point belts in all seating positions. The small SUV has child occupant’s as rearward facing, which shows that this position offers the best safety option as both child dummies received good protection.
Adult Occupant Protection
The test results show that the Punch offered good protection to the driver and passengers’ head and neck. Driver and passenger’s chest, and the knees showed good protection. Driver tibias showed adequate protection while passenger’s tibias showed adequate and good protection. The bodyshell was rated as stable and it was capable of withstanding further loadings. Footwell area was rated as stable.
The Tata Punch offers standard Seat Belt reminders for driver and passengers. It pass UN95 side impact test, it has front passengers SBR that pass the requirements and it offers standard ABS.
Child Occupant Protection
The child seat for the 3 year old and 1.5 year old were installed rearward facing with ISOFIX connectors and support leg. The CRS was able to prevent excessive forward movement during the impact and offers good protection to the head and chest of the dummies. The CRS did not show incompability.
