Tata Punch Inches Closer To Launch; To Challenge Hyundai Casper

Tata Punch, the upcoming 5-seater micro SUV from the home-grown carmaker, is ready to hit roads in coming weeks. Recently, the carmaker released official image of the mini SUV in its production avatar. Here’re 10 key details of the upcoming new Tata micro SUV.

Based on the Altroz’s Alfa platform, the new Tata mini SUV will lock horns against the Maruti Ignis, Mahindra KUV100 and the upcoming Hyundai Casper. It’s estimated to be priced as low as 5 lakh and up to Rs 8.5 lakh for the top-end variant (all, ex-showroom). At such competitive pricing, the Punch will also challenge multiple entry-level hatchbacks including Hyundai Santro, Maruti WagonR and Maruti Celerio.

In the company’s product lineup, the new sub-4 meter micro SUV will be placed below the Nexon.

Similar to Tata’s new breed cars, the upcoming Tata Punch will feature the Impact Design 2.0 philosophy.

The production-ready model looks quite similar to the Tata HBX concept that was previewed at the 2020 Auto Expo. Though, its front bumper and body cladding have been slightly toned down.

Its split headlamps and Tata’s humanity line grille are similar to the Harrier. It also gets the brand’s signature Y design motifs and fog lamp assembly.

Design elements such as upright stance, square-ish wheel arches and heavy cladding all around body enhance its SUV-ish looks.

The carmaker hasn’t yet revealed its interior and feature details. Though, it’s likely to retain the free-standing 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, dashboard design and squarish air con vents from the concept. Read – Tata Nexon EV To Get More Power; Details Out

Some of its features could be borrowed from the Altroz including a semi-digital instrument cluster, a flat-bottom, three-spoke steering wheel, HVAC controls and more.

Reports suggest that the upcoming Tata Punch micro SUV could be offered with the 1.2L Revotron petrol and 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine options. While the former makes power worth 85bhp with 113Nm of torque, the latter is good enough for 100bhp.

Both motors will be made available with the 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox options.
