Tata Punch EV Launch By 2023 Festive Season – Key Details

Tata Punch EV will be the next electric offering from the home-grown automaker in the country. According to a fresh media report, the electric mini SUV will make its debut at the Delhi Auto Expo in January 2023. While its production is reported to begin around June, the market launch will happen around the next year’s festive season. Here’re some key details of the upcoming new Tata electric SUV that we know so far.

Gen 2 Platform

The electric iteration of the Punch mini SUV will be designed on the Gen 2 (Sigma) platform. It will essentially be the heavily modified version of the Alfa architecture that underpins its ICE-powered model. The carmaker has already its electric future plan that includes a range of new electric vehicles, based on three different platforms (IC to EV conversion, Gen 2 and Gen 3). The Sigma (aka Gen 2) platform, which will be optimized for electrification, will have a flat floor for accommodating a large battery pack and miss out on the transmission tunnel.

Powertrain setup of the upcoming Tata Punch EV will include a permanent magnet synchronous motor and battery packs. The mini SUV could be made available with two battery pack options – a 26kWh borrowed from the Tiago EV and a 30.2kWh sourced from the Nexon EV. EV-Specific Changes

Tata will make a few EV-specific changes to its exterior and interior. The Punch EV might feature a closed-off front grille and Blue accent highlighting its electric nature. Most of its features will be similar to the regular model include a 7.0-inch Harman touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, a 7.0-inch part-digital instrument cluster, driver seat height adjust, keyless entry and go, auto climate control, power folding wing mirrors, IRA connected car tech, cruise control, traction control and more.
