Tata Punch EV – How Different It Could Be From Regular Punch?

Tata Motors has recently unveiled updates for the Nexon and Nexon.ev models in the country. The homegrown automaker has officially confirmed that the next addition to their lineup will be the Tata Punch EV, expected to debut during the 2023 festive season (possibly in late October).

While the full details are yet to be officially disclosed, here’s what we currently know: the electric micro SUV will be built on Tata’s Gen-2 EV architecture, which is essentially a heavily modified version of the ALFA platform. Its powertrain will include a liquid-cooled battery and a permanent magnet synchronous motor, delivering power to the front wheels. Similar to Tata’s other electric vehicles, the Punch EV is likely to offer two battery pack options and multiple charging solutions.

A few visual cues will set the Tata Punch EV apart from its ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) counterpart. Recent spy images reveal LED headlamp clusters, a distinctive front grille, and notably, the Punch EV will be the first Tata model to feature a front bumper-integrated charging socket. The alloy wheel design will also differ, and the electric SUV will come equipped with four disc brakes as standard. Read: Tata Azura Name Trademarked – Production-Ready Curvv SUV?

Inside the cabin, there will be a two-spoke steering wheel inspired by the Curvv concept, featuring an illuminated logo at its center, akin to the one found in the newly-launched Nexon facelift. The touchscreen infotainment unit will have a horizontal orientation, with higher trims potentially getting a larger 12.3-inch display, while mid-level variants may feature a 10.25-inch unit.

Notably, the Punch EV could potentially become India’s most affordable electric car to offer a sunroof, following Tata’s recent introduction of sunroofs in select variants of the standard Punch.

Once it hits the market, the Tata Punch EV will directly compete with the Citroen eC3. Expected to start at around 10 lakh for the base model, prices are anticipated to go up to Rs 12 lakh – Rs 12.50 lakh for the fully-loaded trim.
