Mahindra XUV900 Coupe SUV – 5 Key Details We Know So Far

Earlier this year, Mahindra & Mahindra announced its plan to launch 9 new cars by 2026. The plan outlines multiple new-generation models, all-new products and electric vehicles. The home-grown automaker aims to foray into the Coupe SUV segment with a new model that’s reported to be named Mahindra XUV900.

If reports are to be believed, the company has already developed its first prototypes, which are currently under testing phase. At present, the niche Coupe SUV segment has luxury models including BMW X6 and Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe. Here’re key details we know so far about the upcoming XUV900.

– The new Mahindra Coupe SUV could be the first SUV to be designed under the leadership of Pratap Bose that joined Mahindra & Mahindra as a Global Design Head earlier in June 2021. He’s responsible for MADE (Mahindra Advanced Design Centre) and MIDS (Mahindra India Design Studio) and manages design of all key business segments.

– Design and styling of the new Mahindra XUV900 coupe SUV will be inspired by the XUV500 Aero concept that broke cover at the 2016 Auto Expo. While its front fascia will share resemblance with the XUV700, the rear section will look similar to the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe.

– Unlike the XUV500 Aero concept that has suicide doors and pillarless design, the production-ready coupe SUV is expected to feature the conventional front-hinged door and side pillars.

– In the company’s product lineup, the XUV900 will sit above Mahindra’s new flagship SUV – XUV700. Both models will share the platform, look completely different. Some of its features such as dual screen setup could also be carried forward from the XUV700.

– It would be quite early to comment on its engine options. Though, reports suggest that the new Mahindra XUV900 coupe SUV could be offered with the 2.0L turbo petrol and 2.2L mHawk diesel engines that do duty in the XUV700. Transmission options are likely to include a 6-speed manual and an automatic unit. The higher trims could be offered with the optional AWD (all-wheel drive) system.
