Tata Punch Electric Testing Begins – What To Expect?

Tata Motors has started testing the Punch electric mini SUV in the country. Its first test mule was recently caught on camera wearing heavy camouflage. While its official launch date and details are yet to be revealed, the model is likely to arrive in the second half of 2023 (possibly around festive season). Here’re some of its key details that we know so far.

Expected Powertrains

Tata Punch Electric Features

Similar to Tata’s other EVs, the Punch electric will come with the brand’s Ziptron technology that includes a permanent magnet synchronous motor and a battery pack. The mini EV could be offered with multiple battery pack options. It’s likely to share its powertrain with the Tata Tigor EV that’s available with a 26kWh liquid-cooled, high energy density battery pack and a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor. The e-motor makes a top power of 55kW (74bhp) and 170Nm of torque.

Rumour has it that the Tata Punch electric SUV might borrow its powertrain from the Tiago EV. The latter comes with two powertrain setups – a 19.2kWh battery pack with a 74bhp, electric motor and a 24kWh battery pack with a 61bhp, electric motor. Its 19.2kWh battery version delivers a claimed MIDC range of 250km and the latter battery version promises 315km. The Tata Punch electric SUV’s range could be around 300km on a single charge, thus putting against the Citroen eC3 that offers a range of 320km.

What Will be New Inside & Out?

The prototype of the Tata Punch electric appears similar to its petrol counterpart. Though, one can notice its rear disc brakes instead of the regular rear drum brakes. Inside, the Punch EV will get driver selector and an electronic parking brake. Rest of its features will be similar to the petrol-powered model. The electric mini SUV will have a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a 7-inch TFT instrument cluster, flat bottom steering wheel, automatic climate control, etc.
