Tata Nexon Hybrid Version Caught Testing – Report

Buoyed by excellent response for new breed of cars, Tata Motors is readying a wide range of new products to further boost sales. Not just new models, the company is focusing on green mobility and is planning to launch 7 more EVs in the next 3-4 years. What’s interesting is that Tata Motors is also reportedly working on mild hybrid tech for its petrol powered cars.

It is expected that Tata Motors is working on a petrol mild-hybrid powertrain for the Nexon. A prototype of the Nexon compact SUV has been spotted testing. Team-bhp report suggests that the spotted model could be the Tata Nexon hybrid.

The hybrid version could help Tata Nexon to meet the upcoming CAFE and updated BSVI emission norms. The sub-4 meter SUV is currently powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that is capable of producing 118bhp and 170Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed AMT (Automated Manual Transmission).

The hybrid version could follow Maruti Suzuki’s strategy, which offers the Vitara Brezza with 1.5L K15B petrol engine with a mild hybrid tech. The company is also working on a stronger hybrid version to power the upcoming YTB Compact SUV Coupe, which will be positioned above the Brezza.

The Tata Nexon is currently one of the best-selling sub-4 meter SUVs on sale in the Indian market. The company is selling close to 9,000 to 10,000 units per month. Not just regular Nexon, the electric model is also the best-selling electric car in the Indian market.
