Tata Nexon Electric Receiving Over 2,000 Bookings Per Month

Tata Motors believes that the electric vehicles will account for 25 percent of its total car sales in 5 years. The company has sold over 6,000 Nexon EVs since its launch in January 2020. Tata claims that the demand for the electric Nexon is at all-time high. In fact, the demand for Nexon EV is equal to that of the diesel powered SUV.

Speaking to AutoCar India, Shailesh Chandra, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors said that the the company is receiving over 2,000 bookings for the Nexon electric per month. He said, “When we had launched the Nexon EV (in January 2020), we used to get about 300 bookings (per month), and we would be very excited to have so many takers of electric vehicles in the country. And as I am speaking to you today, this has gone up by seven folds.”

The company believes that the demand for EVs will grow exponentially, thanks to the rising fuel prices, reducing battery prices and state subsidies. The state subsidies significantly brings down the cost of purchasing an EV.

The Tata Nexon Electric is available in 5 variants – XM, XZ+, XZ+ LUX, Dark and XZ+ LUX Dark – priced at Rs 13.99 lakh, Rs 15.65 lakh, Rs 16.65 lakh, Rs 15.99 lakh and Rs 16.85 lakh respectively. It is equipped with a 30.2kWh Lithium-ion battery and permanent magnet synchronous magnet induction motor that churns out 125bhp of power and 245Nm of torque.

It is claimed to offer a certified range of 312km on a single charge. The battery pack takes 1 hour to get 80% charge via a DC fast charger and 8-9 hours to get full charge via a standard AC charger. If reports are to be believed, Tata Motors is planning to add an improved battery with higher power output in the Nexon EV. However, details about the updated model are yet to be revealed.

Tata Motors has recently launched the electric version of the Tigor subcompact sedan. It is available in 3 variants – XM, XM and XZ+ – priced at Rs 11.99 lakh, Rs 12.49 lakh and Rs 12.99 lakh respectively. The 2021 Tata Tigor Electric comes fitted with a 55kW electric motor and a 26kW lithium-ion battery pack. This powertrain offers 74bhp (55kW) of power and 170Nm of torque. It is claimed to offer 0 to 60kmph acceleration in just 5.9 seconds.
