Tata Nexon CNG Debuts at Bharat Mobility Expo

Tata Motors is set to expand its CNG model portfolio with the introduction of the Nexon iCNG, which is recently unveiled at the 2024 Bharat Mobility Show in Delhi. Distinguished as the country’s first turbo-petrol CNG car, the exact specifications of the Tata Nexon CNG are yet to be revealed. However, it is confirmed to be powered by the 1.2L, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, incorporating Tata’s innovative twin CNG cylinder technology.

The twin-cylinder setup, reminiscent of the Tiago and Tigor CNG models, features two cylinder tanks discreetly placed under the boot floor, ensuring no compromise on luggage space. The CNG tanks cleverly replace the spare wheel, which is repositioned underneath the car for practicality.

Tata Nexon CNG Launch

Presented in its concept form at the Bharat Mobility Show, the Tata Nexon CNG is expected to reach showrooms in the second half of 2024. Upon its launch, it will enter a competitive segment, facing off against the Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG. Based on the ICE-powered Nexon facelift introduced last year, the Nexon CNG retains the design and interior features of its conventional counterpart.

Alongside the Nexon iCNG, Tata Motors showcased the Altroz Racer hatch and the Curvv SUV in their close-to-production versions at the Bharat Mobility Show. The Altroz Racer, a sportier iteration of the hatchback, features cosmetic enhancements, upgraded features, and a more powerful engine. The model shares its engine with the Nexon – i.e. 120bhp, 1.2L turbo petrol. It will compete against the Hyundai i20 N Line.

The Tata Curvv, positioned to challenge segment leaders like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, and Volkswagen Taigun, will initially debut with an electric powertrain, with petrol and diesel versions to follow later. The Curvv EV is anticipated to be a high-range model, offering a remarkable range of over 500km on a full charge. The market can anticipate the launch of both models in the upcoming months.
