Tata Motors To Have 10 New Electric Cars, SUVs By 2027

Tata Motors had unveiled the Curvv EV concept and the Avinya EV concept in early 2022. Both concepts preview the brand’s future electric models to be launched by 2025. Shailesh Chandra – President of Tata Motors’ Passenger Vehicles Business – has said that the homegrown automaker is planning to launch 10 new electric cars over the next 5 years.

Tata Motors is currently ruling the electric car segment with close to 80 per cent market share. The market share is expected to go down, as most of the automakers are now planning to launch electric vehicles in the market. The company believes that the dip will be compensated by additional volumes.

Tata Motors is currently selling two electric cars – the Tigor EV and the Nexon EV in the country. While the Tigor is available at a starting price of Rs 12.49 lakh, the Nexon electric SUV is offered at a starting price of Rs 14.99 lakh. The company has recently launched the long-range version of the Nexon EV, which is called the Nexon EV MAX. It is claimed to offer a range of 437kms.

In the coming months, Tata Motors will launch the electrified version of the Altroz premium hatchback in the country. Tata Motors had showcased the concept model at the 2020 Auto Expo. In fact, the company has started testing the new model on the Indian roads. Adding to it, Tata Motors is also working on an all-new electric micro-SUV based on the Punch SUV. The Tata Punch EV is expected to be priced as low as Rs 10 lakh.

Tata Motors will also launch the production version of the Curvv Coupe SUV in 2024. This model is claimed to offer a range of over 400kms. It is based on the Tatas X1 platform that underpins the Nexon range. Tata engineers have modified the platform to accommodate bigger model and different battery packs. On the other hand, the Avinya concept based Born Electric model is scheduled to be launched in 2025. It is brand’s first concept model to be based on the GEN 3 architecture – ‘Born Electric’ – that supports multiple body styles.

Tata Motors is also preparing to bring back the Sierra nameplate in the market. The company had showcased the Sierra concept at the 2020 Auto Expo. The production version of the Sierra Electric Vehicle will be based on Tata’s new SIGMA platform. It’s essentially based on the Alfa platform, but heavily modified for electrification.
