Tata Curvv Coupe SUV – All You Need To Know

Tata Motors had showcased the Curvv EV Concept in April 2022. This is the brand’s next big step towards the electric future. The production version of the SUV will debut in 2024 and will come with multiple powertrains including Pure EV, Petrol and Diesel. It will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, MG Astor, VW Taigun and the Skoda Kushaq.

The Tata Curvv Coupe SUV concept shows the brand’s future design philosophy for the Indian market. The company claims that the new Curvv will be aimed at younger buyers looking to drive home a different and aspirational product. Instead of traditional SUV styling, Tata Motors has opted for a different-looking Coupe SUV styling.

Tata Curvv – Engine Options?

It is based on the Tata’s X1 platform that underpins the Nexon range. The platform has been modified to accommodate bigger model and different battery packs. Tata Motors hasn’t released the powertrain options. It is likely to get a larger 40kWh battery pack with range over 400kms. It will rival the likes of the MG ZS EV, the Hyundai Kona EV and the Mahindra XUV400.

The ICE version is expected to get a new 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which is currently under development. This 4-cylinder turbo engine is likely to produce around 160bhp of power. The diesel model is likely to receive the 110bhp, 1.5L turbo engine that powers the Nexon.

The new model will sit above the Nexon EV and will measure above 4 meters in length. The SUV Coupe is likely to measure 4.3 meters in length and will ride on a longer wheelbase. The Tata Curvv comes with the signature Tata grille, which is likely to be updated with the production model. It comes with split headlamp setup with main lights placed lower on the bumper and the larger LED DRLs on bonnet. This set-up will be offered on the electric version of the Coupe SUV. Tata could alter the placement of the headlamp unit in the ICE model.

The Coupe SUV has the Curvy roofline that flows into the D-pillar, offering a squat stance. The SUV gets a completely different side profile compared to the Nexon EV. The big changes are made post the B-pillar. The SUV Coupe will ride on bigger wheels. It gets longer doors, tapering roof, and all-new rear profile with a larger overhang. The concept had 20-inch wheels; however, the production model will run on 17-inch and 16-inch wheels. The wheel design is expected to remain the same, while the flared wheel arches will be slightly tweaked in the production model.

Instead of proper ORVMs, the concept had slim LEDs. However, the production model will have proper mirrors with integrated LED indicators and cameras for a 360-degree view. The production model could also get ADAS tech with features like blind spot monitor, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane assist and others.

At the back, the SUV Coupe has a light bar that runs across the width and form a single tail-light unit. The production model is likely to retain the design language; however, the shape of tail-lights could be tweaked. The angular light integrated into the bumpers could become reverse lamps. There will be reverse camera integrated into the Tata logo.

The cabin design previews the brand’s future design philosophy. The blue interior scheme offered in the concept is also expected in the production-spec model. It features a two-spoke steering with touch controls, a new interface for air conditioning and dual digital screens. These features are expected to be offered on future Tata cars and SUVs. The central console has buttons for dual-zone climate control, auto park and a 360-degree camera. Adding to it, the central console also has a CNG button.

The touch buttons will be offered on the steering as well as the centre console control cluster. Tata Motors is claimed to have used recyclable materials, which is also visible on the seats, door panels as well as the part of the dashboard. The Coupe SUV comes with a 10-inch touchscreen unit that show features like cruise control, a compass and drive modes. The vehicle will have connected car technology along with wireless connectivity features. The concept had captain seats in the second row, while the production model will get bench-type seat.
