Tata, Maruti, Hyundai, Mahindra, Kia – Car Sales December 2020

Car sales In India are improving, as passenger vehicle market has registered an impressive double-digit growth at 18% in December, 2020. The rise in demand for personal cars instead of shared mobility, and introduction of new cars have helped passenger vehicles in India to record positive growth.

Maruti Suzuki – 20.2% Growth

Maruti Suzuki sold 1,60,225 units in December 2020, which is significantly higher compared to the same period last year. The company has recorded a growth of 20.2 percent. The total sales comprises of domestic sales of 1,46,480 units, 3,808 units for OEMs and 9,938 units for exports. MSIL has started producing Jimny for export market.

Hyundai – 24.8% Growth

Hyundai has recorded a cumulative sale of 66,750 units in December 2020. The company sold 47,400 units in the domestic market and exported 19,3350 for the international markets. Hyundai’s domestic sales increased by 24.89% over the same period last year. In fact, the exports also increased by 58.84%.

Tata Motors recorded an impressive 21% growth in December 2020. The company recorded a total cumulative domestic sale including CVs and Passenger vehicles of 53,430 units. In the passenger vehicle category, Tata Motors retailed 23,545 units as against 12,785 units sold in December last year. The company delivered 68,803 units in the Q3 FY21, which is 89% rise against the same period last year. The company also retailed 418 units of the Nexon EV in December 2020.

Mahindra – 5% Growth

Mahindra & Mahindra sold 35,187 vehicles including passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles and exports in December 2020. The cumulative sales were declined by 10% as against the 39,230 units sold in December 2019. In the passenger vehicle segment, Mahindra sold 16,050 units with a positive growth of 5%. In the same month last year, Mahindra sold 15,225 units. The entire PV sales have recorded a 3% year-on-year rise.

Kia Motors – 154% growth

The Korean automaker has delivered 11,818 units in December 2020 as against 4,645 units in the same month last year. This is an impressive 154% YOY growth; however, a significant drop of 44% in Month-ON-Month figures.
