Citroen C5 Aircross, the first premium mid-size SUV from the French carmaker, will make its official India debut on 1st February 2021. Just so you know, the carmaker revealed the SUV at a media event in 2019. It was originally planned to be launched during 2020 festive season, but it was delayed due to the pandemic. Now, the company has confirmed that its first offering for India will be revealed on 1st February. It’s launch is likely to happen in the first quarter of 2021 (possibly in March).
– The trail production of the C5 Aircross was commenced in July last year at the CK Birla’s Thiruvallur based facility in Tamil Nadu. Though, the SUV will initially be imported as CKD (Completely Knocked Down) unit and then assembled locally.
– The carmaker will bring in a single, fully-loaded variant that’s expected to cost from Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom).
– If reports are to be trusted, the Citroen first SUV in India will be initially sold across 10 major cities. In the first phase, the company plans to setup 10-12 showrooms based on ‘La Maison Citroen’ concept.
– In India, the Citroen C5 Aircross is likely to be offered with a 2.0L diesel engine making 177bhp with 400Nm. Both manual and automatic gearboxes will be on offer.
– Considering the falling demand of diesel models in lower segments, the company has decided to introduce its mass segment cars (developed under its C-Cubed programme) with petrol engine only.
After the Citroen C5 Aircross, the French carmaker will foray into the highly competitive subcompact SUV space with a model codenamed – Citroen C21. The new compact SUV, which is currently in its testing phase, will hit Indian roads in the second half of 2021. The company is also working on a mid-size SUV to challenge dominance of Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. It’s likely to be launched before 2022. Citroen is also evaluating a premium hatchback and a sedan for the Indian market.
