Official bookings for the upcoming Tata Altroz automatic model have been commenced across the country. Buyers can pre-book the vehicle by paying a sum of Rs 21,000. Its deliveries will begin in mid March 2022. Interestingly, the Altroz automatic will mark debut of Tata’s new dual-clutch transmission (DCT). It will also make it the first vehicle in its segment to offer DCT automatic gearbox.
The new unit is likely to be offered with the 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol engine that pushes out a peak power of 86PS and 113Nm of torque. The petrol automatic combo will be offered in three trims – XT, XZ and XZ+ – and five colours – Opera Blue (new), Arcade Grey, Downtown Red, Harbour Blue and Avenue White.
At present, the Altroz hatchback model lineup is also available with the 1.2L iTurbo petrol and 1.5L diesel engines making 110PS and 90PS respectively. The diesel variants will continue to come with the manual gearbox. In terms of pricing, the Tata Altroz automatic models will be positioned slightly premium over its manual counterparts. It’s expected to be around Rs 1 lakh more expensive than the manual versions that cost between Rs 8.07 lakh – Rs 9.42 lakh (all, ex-showroom).
In other updates, the home-grown automaker is also planning to bring in electric version of the Tata Altroz hatchback. The model was first previewed in its pre-production avatar at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. The company said that it will introduce the Altroz EV “at the right time”. Visually, the electric model will look slightly different from the regular version. It will have Blue accents inside and out highlighting its electric nature.
The Tata Altroz EV will use the brand’s Ziptron electric powertrain that’s reported to come with an additional battery pack option. The new bigger battery pack might improve its range by 25% – 40% and make it capable to deliver a range around 500km on a single charge. The electric hatchback could also be offered with new ZConnect app offering 35 connected car features. Speculations are on rife that the Altroz EV could be among the most affordable EVs in the country.
