Tata Altroz iTurbo Unveiled – Launch Date, Specs, Pictures

Tata Motors has unveiled the new, more powerful variant of the Altroz premium hatchback. Called the Tata Altroz iTurbo, the model is scheduled to hit showrooms on 26th January, 2021. While its prices will be announced on 22nd January, official bookings and test drives will begin from tomorrow (14th January). The new Altroz turbo petrol will be made available in three variants – XT, XZ and XZ+ (new) – and 5 colour schemes. For power, the new Tata Altroz iTurbo uses a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged motor sourced from Nexon. However, the carmaker has de-tuned it for the premium hatchback. Now, the turbo-petrol unit pushes out a peak power of 110bhp at 5,500rpm and 140Nm of torque between 1,500rpm – 5,500rpm. The same engine on the Nexon compact SUV delivers 118bhp and 170Nm of torque.

Compared to the naturally aspirated petrol engine, the turbocharged motor is 28% more powerful and 24% torquier. The latter one is capable to do 0 to 100kmph under 12 seconds. While the naturally aspirated and diesel variants offer Eco and City modes, the new Tata Altroz iTurbo comes with Sport and City drive modes. As of now, the new Altroz turbo petrol model is offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The carmaker might introduce a new DCT automatic gearbox at a later stage. In terms of design and styling, the new Tata Altroz turbo petrol model looks exactly similar to the regular model. It carries the same glossy black grille, sweptback projector headlamps with LED DRLs, large fog lamps and a wide airdam along with the optional black roof and black styling elements at the rear.

The carmaker has equipped the new Tata Altroz iTurbo with some extra goodies including a 17-inch infotainment system with new Doodel personalized wallpaper settings, Harman sourced surround sound system with two additional tweeters, AC unit with Xpress Cool feature, leatherette seats and straight up power windows along with a black and grey interior theme.

Similar to the Nexon EV, the new Tata Altroz turbo petrol gets the brand’s IRA (Intelligent Real-time Assist) technology offering several connected features such as What3Words navigation, natural voice commands. The premium hatchback also offers tilt steering, wearable key, height adjustable driver seat, ISS (Idle Stop Start), dual path suspension, push button start with smart key, a rear power outlet and cruise control.
