The new Swift based SUV is likely to be powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a 48V mild hybrid system. In the current form, the 1.4L turbo engine produces 129bhp of power and 235Nm of torque. This engine will also power the new Swift Sport and the international-spec Suzuki Jimny 5-Door variant.

The Suzuki Swift based SUV is likely to offer more practical cabin. It is likely to have higher ground clearance, SUV-like design elements like body cladding, skid plates and roof rails, and tall-stance and larger greenhouse. The Japanese-spec model could also get updated suspension set-up and Suzuki’s AllGrip AWD system.

What’s interesting is that Maruti Suzuki is also preparing a compact crossover based on the Baleno hatchback. This model is reportely to be positioned below the Nexon, and will fight the recently launched Tata Punch. Codenamed YTB, the new SUV will be designed on the Heartect platform that’s said to be built with ultra and advancing high tensile steel.

This mini SUV is likely to be powered by a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine that powers the Baleno hatchback. The engine will also be benefitted with 12V mild hybrid system, which should improve the fuel efficiency.
