Maruti Suzuki is planning to launch a wide range of new SUVs including the new Vitara Brezza and the Jimny off-roader. The company has already started exporting the locally made Jimny to the global amarkets. While the global model is a 3-door mini off-roader, MSIL will introduce a long-wheelbase Jimny 5-door in the Indian market.
In fact, the new Suzuki Jimny LWB variant has been spotted testing in foreign soil. This suggests that a 5-door version of the SUV could be in the works. A new leaked document reveals the dimensions and specifications of the Suzuki Jimny 5-door. Like we mentioned before, the new LWB version of the SUV will be based on the Jimny Sierra.
The leaked document reveals that the Suzuki Jimny 5-door will measure 3,850mm in length, 1,645mm in width and 1,730mm tall. The SUV will ride on 2,550mm of wheelbase. Compared to the regular 3-door variant, the 5-door Jimny is 300mm longer. The wheelbase has been increased by 300mm, which will help the automaker to create more space inside the cabin.
The Suzuki Jimny 5-door model is claimed to feature a ground clearance of 210mm. The SUV will weigh 1,190 kilograms. It is claimed to feature 15-inch wheels shod with 195/80 section tyres. The off-roader will be powered by a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder K-series inline DOHC petrol engine, which is capable of producing around 101bhp of power at 6,000rpm and a peak torque of 130Nm at 4,000rpm. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 4-speed torque convertor automatic.
The new Suzuki Jimny 5-door will be positioned above the Vitara Brezza in terms of pricing. It will come with AWD system as standard. Expected to be priced around Rs 10 lakh, the LWB Jimny SUV will be positioned against the Mahindra Thar.
