Strom R3, the entry-level three-wheeler from a Mumbai-based electric vehicle startup, has received orders worth over $1 million (around Rs 7.5 crore) in just 4 days. One must note that the limited units of the electric car will be produced on annual basis and its pre-bookings will be opened for the next few weeks only.
The pre-bookings are currently available for Delhi and Mumbai at a token sum of Rs 10,000. Early customers can avail benefits with upgrades worth Rs 50,000 including premium audio system, customized colour options and 3 years of free maintenance. Its deliveries will begin in early 2022.
Pratik Gupta, co-founder of Strom Motors, said that the company aims to develop affordable electric vehicle that will be accessible for all across the country. It believes to receive great response and help the manufacturer achieve set targets and tigger wide-scale adoption. The Strom R3 has been priced at Rs 4.50 lakh (ex-showroom).
Powertrain of the R3 electric mini car includes a 48V lithium-ion battery and a 15kW AC electric motor. The latter one delivers a peak torque of 90bhp. The EV offers a maximum range of 200km and a top speed of 80kmph. Its battery pack can be charged in 3 hours via a 15A power outlet. There are three driving modes – Eco, Normal and Sports. The company says that the Strom R3 electric car has a running cost of 40 paise per kilometer.
The R3 is a two-door mini electric three-wheeler measuring 2907mm in length, 1450mm in width and 1572mm in height. It provides 300-litres and 100-litres cargo space at the rear and front respectively. Its suspension system includes Macpherson Struts and dual shock absorber at the front and rear axles respectively. It runs on 3 X 155/80 R13 tyres and carries a kerb weight of 550kg.
