We have reported earlier that the first Bajaj-Triumph motorcycle launch has been postponed to 2023. In a recent interview, Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director, Bajaj Auto, has revealed that the product is currently in its development phase, where its prototypes are ready and need design changes if required. The entire process will take time and the final model is expected to arrive towards the end of fiscal year 2023. That means, there is a delay of 6-9 months from what was planned earlier (i.e. 2021).
The motorcycles developed under the Bajaj-Triumph partnership will be manufactured at Baja Auto’s Chakan based plant and sold under the Triumph brand name. The production plant will become operational by 2023 and it will serve as a manufacturing hub for the KTM and Husqvarna motorcycles as well. Just so you know, Bajaj Auto and Triumph Motorcycles entered into a non-equity partnership for developing mid-capacity motorcycles (ranging from 200cc to 750cc).
If reports are to be believed, the Bajaj-Triumph motorcycle lineup will include Daytona 250, Triumph Tiger or a mini Bonneville. These models will also be introduced in other emerging markets such as South East Asia and Latin America. The first Bajaj-Triumph motorcycle might feature a 200cc, single-cylinder engine and is expected to cost below Rs 2 lakh. Here, it will take head-to-head against the Honda CB350, Jawa Classic 350 and the upcoming new-generation Royal Enfield bikes.
The first product is likely to be designed on the entry-level Triumph Bonneville carrying retro-classic styling. Some of its key feature might include a round headlamp, alloy wheels, a flat single-piece seat and a digital instrument cluster. Its braking system could include the front and rear disc brakes will be further assisted by dual-channel ABS (anti-lock braking system).
