Czech automaker, Skoda has officially launched the new Slavia mid-sized sedan in the Indian market. The new model comes as a replacement for the ageing Rapid sedan; however, the Slavia is significantly bigger, more modern & feature-loaded than the later. The new model is based on the MQB AO IN platform that underpins the new Kushaq mid-sized SUV.
Skoda believes that the Slavia has the potential to revive the mid-sized sedan segment, which is currently dominated by Honda City, Hyundai Verna and the Maruti Ciaz. The new Skoda Slavia will directly rival the 5th gen City sedan, which is India’s best-selling mid-sized sedan for quite some time. – The 5th generation Honda City is available in both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol version is available in the price bracket of Rs 11.23 lakhs and Rs 14.98 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The diesel City costs between Rs 12.83 lakh and Rs 15.18 lakh.

– The new Slavia is available in two petrol engines – a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder TSI turbo. The 1.0L engine churns out 115bhp and 178Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.
– The 1.5L TSI engine is the same unit that powers the Skoda Kushaq & the VW Taigun. This engine is capable of producing 150bhp and 250Nm of torque. For transmitting power, it gets a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox.
– The new Honda City is powered by tried & tested 1.5-litre 4-cylinder, i-VTEC, naturally-aspirated petrol engine. This engine churns out 121bhp and 145Nm of torque. The engines comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-step CVT automatic option. The City also gets a 1.5L diesel engine that is good for 100bhp and 200Nm, paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox.

– The new Slavia measures 4,541mm in length, 1,752mm in width and 1,487mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,651mm.
– The new City rides on 2,600mm wheelbase. It is 4,549mm long, 1,748mm wide and 1,489mm tall.
– The new Slavia rides on the segment-leading wheelbase of 2,651mm, which is 51mm more than the City’s wheelbase. Moreover, the Slavia has a 179mm ground clearance that’s 14mm more than the City’s ground clearance.
