Czech automaker, Skoda has recently released the camouflage images of the much-awaited Kushaq mid-sized SUV. Skoda India’s director of Sales, Service & Marketing, Zac Hollis has confirmed that the Skoda Kushaq mid-sized SUV will be revealed in March 2021.
Zac Hollis confirmed this development in a tweet to Twitter user who asked him “when can we expect the full reveal of Kushaq?” Zac replied “Next Month”. The Skoda Kushaq mid-sized SUV is scheduled to be launched in the second quarter of 2021, April-June. The new model will be the first vehicle under Skoda’s India 2.0 plan.
The Skoda Kushaq will be the first model to be based on the VW Group’s MQB AO IN platform, which will also underpin the VW Taigun mid-sized SUV. This is basically the heavily localised version of the MQB AO platform, which underpins the global-spec VW T-Cross and the Skoda Kamiq. It will measure around 4.25 meters in length and will ride on segment-largest 2,651mm of wheelbase. The SUV will offer segment-leading cabin space and boot space.
The new Skoda Kushaq will be offered in 2 engine options – a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol. While the former is likely to produce around 120bhp of power and 200Nm of torque, the 1.5L turbo unit produces 147bhp and 250Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed torque convertor automatic (1.0L) and a 7-speed DSG (1.5L Only).
The new Kushaq mid-sized SUV will be offered with a standard sunroof and not the panoramic one. For safety, the SUV gets features like ESP (Electronic Stability Control), Six airbags, hill hold control, ISOFIX tethers for rear seats, rain and light sensing wipers, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
For people not in the know, the Skoda Kushaq is the production version of the Vision IN concept which was previewed at the 2020 Auto Expo. The production version will retain most of the design.
