Skoda has officially announced that the long-awaited Skoda Kushaq mid-sized SUV will be launched in the Indian market on June 28, 2021. The company also said that the bookings will commence on the same date as the launch; however, Skoda dealers have unofficially started accepting pre-orders at a token amount of Rs 10,000.
Skoda has already confirmed that the deliveries for the new Kushaq will commence from July 2021. This will be the brand’s second launch in June, as the new Octavia was introduced on June 10, 2021. The Skoda Kushaq will mark the debut of Volkswagen Group’s new MQB AO IN platform, which also underpins the soon-to-be-launched VW Taigun.
The new Skoda Kushaq is likely to be offered in 3 trim levels – Active, Ambition & Style. It will be offered in 5 exterior colour options – Honey Orange, Tornado Red, Brilliant Silver, Carbon Steel and Candy White. The top-spec model will come equipped with several high-end comfort and convenience features such as leather seats, ventilated front seats, cruise control, electric sunroof, connected car tech, automatic climate control, automatic headlamps, etc. Skoda is also reportedly preparing the Monte Carlo version of the Kushaq, which will arrive at a later stage.
The Skoda Kushaq will be offered with two engine options – a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol. The 1.5L engine churns out a maximum power output of 147bhp and a peak torque of 250Nm. For transmitting power, this engine will be paired to either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. In terms of proportions, the new Kushaq is 4,221mm long, 1,760mm wide and 1,612mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,651mm. It offers a boot space of 385-litres, which can be extended by folding the second row of seats.
The Skoda Kushaq will also debut the VW Group’s new infotainment system in India. It will come with VW Play Infotainment system, which was first introduced on the VW Nivus Coupe-SUV in Brazil. This infotainment system is jointly develop by VW Brazil and automotive component maker Visteon. It features a 10.1-inch touchscreen that doubles as a display for rear view camera. It is compatible with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Adding to it, the infotainment system also has live-streaming of music and audio podcasts via SIM-based internet access along with in-car Wi-Fi.
