Skoda Auto is all set to enter into the mid-size SUV segment to challenge Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Called the Skoda Kushaq, the SUV has already made its appearance in its prototype avatar. Now, the carmaker has confirmed that the production-ready Kushaq will debut on 18th March 2021. Its price announcement, however, is expected to be made in the following weeks. The Kushaq will be the first Skoda car to be based on the India-specific MQB A0 IN platform and the first model to roll out under the brand’s India 2.0 Project.
The carmaker has already confirmed that the Skoda Kushaq will be offered with two turbocharged petrol engines – 1.0L, 3-cylinder TSI and 1.5L, 4-cylinder TSI. While the former will be good enough for 110bhp, the latter will product 150bhp. Both motors can be had with a 6-speed manual gearbox. While a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission will be reserved for the 1.0L petrol variants, a 7-speed DSG will be exclusively offered on the 1.5L variants.
The new Skoda SUV will have 2671mm long wheelbase ensuring more cabin space. In terms of features, the Kushaq will offer a free-standing 12.3-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. It will get a standard sunroof instead of a panoramic unit. Skoda confirms that the production-ready Skoda Kushaq will stay true to the Vision IN concept that broke cover at the 2020 Auto Expo. Upfront, the SUV will carry the signature chrome-embellished grille, split projector headlamps, large air intakes, an angular bumper and a rugged skid plate. Design bits such as stylish alloy wheels, body cladding all around body and L-shaped LED taillmaps with horizontal reflector add more to its sporty appearance.
