Simple Energy, the Bengaluru based electric vehicle startup, is ready to launch its first electric scooter in India on 15th August 2021. Called the Simple One, the model will initially be made available across 13 states in the country. The list includes Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Telangana, Maharashtra, Delhi, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. The locations for experience centers in cities of the select states have already been finalized by the company.
In the first phase, the two-wheeler maker will produce one million units annually at its Hosur-based plant in Tamil Nadu. The facility, which is spread across the area of 2 lakh sq ft, will be operational by the end of this year. In the next couple of years, Simile Energy aims to expand its footprint and sales network with an investment of over Rs 350 crores. Official bookings for the Simple One electric scooter will open from its launch day.
Talking about the powertrain, the upcoming Simple One electric scooter will be packed with a 4.8kWh lithium-ion battery that’s reported to be detachable. That means, one can take it out to charge and put it back at its place. In Eco mode, the new Simple electric scooter will offer a claimed range of 240km on a full charge. It will be capable to do 0 to 50kmph in 3.6 seconds and attain a top speed of 100kmph.
Visually, the new Simple One e-scooter looks futuristic. It features a triangular headlamp with a triangular LED DRL, handlebar mounted turn indicators, black grab rail and LED taillamps. On the feature front, it will offer a touchscreen on-board navigation and Bluetooth connectivity.
Prices of the new Simple electric scooter are likely to be around Rs 1.10 lakh and Rs 1.20 lakh. The FAME II benefits and subsidies offered by different state governments will make it more affordable for buyers. It will be positioned against the upcoming Ola electric scooter that’s due for 15th August.
