Royal Enfield enthusiasts in India are eagerly anticipate the launch of the Shotgun 650, the next big offering from the Chennai-based bikemaker. The limited, customised version of this bike, restricted to just 25 units, has been priced at Rs 4.25 lakh. The unveiling of the mass-market model is eagerly awaited, with its prices set to be announced in January 2024. Forecasts indicate that the factory-painted variant of the Shotgun 650 will be available at a more accessible price point compared to its exclusive, customised counterpart.

The heart of the Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 lies in its 650cc parallel-twin engine, a fact confirmed by the company at the 2023 Motoverse. Although power and torque figures were initially withheld, recent revelations from a leaked Type Approval Certificate provided by the Delhi Transport Department have shed light on these crucial details. The Shotgun 650 will deliver a maximum power of 46.4bhp at 7,250rpm, a performance level akin to the Super Meteor 650. Complementing this power, the motor is expected to generate a torque output of approximately 52.3Nm. Transmission responsibilities will be managed by a 6-speed gearbox.

Drawing inspiration from the platform and design elements of the RE Super Meteor 650, the Shotgun 650 distinguishes itself with a new headlight cowl, uniquely designed fuel tank, chopped rear mudguard, wider handlebar, and distinctive pea-shooter style exhausts. The addition of newly-designed alloy wheels enhances its overall aesthetic appeal. The bike features a single seat with a removable pillion seat and a convenient luggage rack. Much like its counterpart, the Super Meteor 650, the Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 offers a semi-digital instrument cluster and a tripper navigation module, ensuring riders stay connected and informed on the go.

In the Indian market, the RE Shotgun 650 is ready to carve its niche without any direct rivals. However, it is expected to compete with Jawa bobbers – the Jawa 42 and Jawa Perak. The mass-market version of the Shotgun 650 is anticipated to be competitively priced around Rs 3.50 lakh (ex-showroom)
