Royal Enfield has closed the year on a strong note, recording its highest sales figure in December, 2020. The bikemaker sold a total of 68,995 units including 63,580 units of the Classic 350 and the newly-launched Meteor 350 and 5,415 units of the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650. The company registered a year-on-year growth of 36.85 per cent. Last month, RE witnessed 81.70 per cent growth in its export business. These are the highest sales figures achieved by the Chennai-based bikemaker in 2020.
For 2021, the company has planned a range of new models including the next-generation RE Classic 350, Interceptor 350 and a 650cc cruiser motorcycle. Besides this, RE will bring in the updated version of the Himalayan adventure tourer and Interceptor and Continental 650 with alloy wheels.
Talking about the 2021 Royal Enfield Classic 350, the retro-style bike will be based on a new modular āJā platform that has already been used in the newly-launched RE Meteor 350. The bike will also receive a new engine sourced from the Meteor. It will come with a 349cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine with OHC (OverHead Camshaft) configuration. Noticeable changes will also be made to its design and features.
The all-new Royal Enfield Interceptor 350 motorcycle is likely to hit roads sometime this year. The company has already begun testing the vehicle in the country. Unlike its 650cc sibling that has twin exhaust system, the new model will feature single side mounted exhaust unit. The new RE 350 Interceptor is likely to share its platform, suspension and braking system. The new RE 650 cruiser motorcycle will also underpin the same architecture, engine and mechanism.
The RE Interceptor 650 and Continental 650 with alloy wheels are likely to arrive in February, 2021. As mentioned above, the updated RE Himalayan has also been planned for this year. The adventure tourer will receive a few new features including tripper navigation system along with a periodic feedback-driver update.
