Royal Enfield has some really big plans for the Indian market. The Chennai-based bikemaker will expand its product lineup with a range of new motorcycles (with engine capacity of 250cc to 750cc) in coming years. The Royal Enfield Interceptor 350 is one of the much-anticipated upcoming RE bikes that was recently caught on camera during its test rounds. Here’re 4 important things that we know so far about the lesser-capacity Interceptor.
1. Design & Features
Design of the Royal Enfield Interceptor 350 will be inspired by its bigger sibling. It might also source some of its styling elements from the newly-launched Royal Enfield Meteor 350. The latest spy pictures reveal that the motorcycle will have a single side-mounted exhaust system instead of the twin unit as we have seen on the Interceptor 650. The spotted prototype also has golden canister on the rear shock absorber, while the taillamp and rear fender seem borrowed from its bigger sibling.
A digital rendering previews a possible design of the new Royal Enfield 350 bike. The rendered model features blacked-out exhaust and a single-piece seat. It’s platform and design bits such as front fender, side panels, alloy wheels and braking system will be carried over from the RE Meteor 350. While its fuel tank looks completely different, the embossed logo appears similar to the Meteor Supernova variant.
2. Engine Power
The upcoming Interceptor 350 is likely to share its powertrain with the RE Meteor 350. The latter comes with a newly-developed 349cc, single-cylinder, fuel injected engine that’s good enough for 20.2bhp and 27Nm of torque. It’s an air-cooled motor featuring an oil circuit in the 2-valve head and a balancer shaft to reduce vibrations.
3. Official Name
Rumour has it that the production-ready version of the Interceptor based 350cc motorcycle could be named ‘Royal Enfield Hunter’. In late 2019, Eicher Motors had trademarked the Royal Enfield Hunter name for one of its upcoming models targeting young buyers. It’s reported to be lighter and more affordable than the RE Bullet.
4. Expected Launch
There is no official word on its launch timeline. Though, reports suggest that the new Royal Enfield Interceptor 350 might hit showrooms sometime in 2021.
