Renault Kiger sub-4 metre SUV has started arriving at dealerships ahead of its launch in March 2021. Unofficial bookings for the model have already been commenced across the country. The carmaker says that Kiger’s design combines “urban modernity with agility and muscular bodywork” and its cabin offers “technology, functionality and roominess”.
While prices of the subcompact SUV are likely to be announced in coming weeks, it’s claimed to undercut all its rivals including the Nissan Magnite. The latter one is currently the most affordable model in its segment.
The starting price of the Kiger prices will be below Rs 5.50 lakh. It will be the most affordable and smallest Renault SUV in the country. Once launched, the new Renault compact SUV will face challenge from multiple cars including Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Toyota Urban Cruiser, Mahindra XUV300, Kia Sonet and Hyundai Venue. Engine setup of the Renault Kiger includes a 1.0L naturally aspirated petrol and a 1.0L turbocharged petrol motor. The former comes with the 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox options. Its power and torque figures stand at 71bhp and 96Nm respectively. The turbo petrol unit can be had with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a CVT automatic transmission. It pushes out a peak power of 98bhp and 160Nm of torque.
Renault Kiger has dual-tone (Black and Grey) interior theme along with lots goodies. The SUV offers an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, an air purifier, wireless charging, fully digital instrument console, ambient lighting, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, cruise control, keyless entry, steering-mounted controls, and many more features. On the safety front, the new Renault compact SUV comes equipped with four airbags, seat-belt reminders, ABS with EBD, and Isofix child-seat anchorage points.
Some of its key design bits include three-pod LED headlamps with LED DRLs, two-slat grille with chrome inserts, flared wheel arches, roof rails, black cladding, 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, C-shaped LED taillamps and dual-tone bumper with a silver skid plate.
