Unofficial bookings of the upcoming new Renault Kiger subcompact SUV have been commenced in the country. Select Renault dealers are accepting pre-orders at a token sum ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000. In coming weeks, the model will be available for test drives at dealerships. Its launch, however, will take place in the month of March 2021.
The carmaker has already confirmed that the Kiger will undercut the Nissan Magnite, which is currently the most affordable vehicle in its segment. Its prices are likely to start from Rs 5 lakh (ex-showroom).
The upcoming Renault compact SUV will share its platform and engines with the Nissan Magnite. That means, it will sit on the CMFA+ platform and come with 1.0L naturally aspirated and turbocharged petrol engines.
While the naturally aspirated motor is good enough for 72bhp and 96Nm, the turbo-petrol unit makes 100bhp with 160Nm. The model lineup will be available with three gearboxes – 5-speed manual (standard), AMT (naturally-aspirated petrol only) and CVT automatic (turbo-petrol only).
In terms of features, the Renault Kiger comes equipped with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity and voice commands. The list of features also includes a 4-speaker, 4-tweeter Arkamys audio system, PM2 5 clean air filter (first-in-segment), automatic climate control, ambient lighting, keyless entry, push-button start, reverse parking camera and many more.
The carmaker says that the upcoming Kiger combines “urban modernity with agility” and has “muscular bodywork”. The production version retains most of design bits from the concept that was previewed in November last year.
Some of its key elements include the signature grille with 3D graphic finish and honeycomb-shaped chromed effects, LED headlamps, LED DRLs, aluminum finish skid plate , bold front bumper, sculpted bonnet, pronounced shoulder lines and wheel arches with cladding, black diamond cut alloys for higher trims, a floating roof and LED taillamps.
