The production-ready Renault Kiger sub-4 meter SUV recently made its world debut in India. At the unveiling event, the carmaker revealed engine specifications and feature details of the model. While its official launch date is yet to be announced, the new Renault compact SUV is likely to hit roads in the month of March. Official bookings for the model are likely to begin near around its launch (possibly in late February, 2021). The Kiger has been built on the CMFA+ platform that also underpins its rival cousin – Nissan Magnite.
Engine setup of the Kiger compact SUV will include a 1.0L naturally aspirated petrol and 1.0L turbocharged petrol unit. While the former makes a top power of 72bhp, the latter is good enough for 100bhp. A 5-speed manual gearbox will be standard across the model lineup. The naturally aspirated and turbocharged motors will also be available with optional AMT and CVT automatic gearboxes respectively. The carmaker claims that the Renault Kiger will offer “best-in-class” fuel efficiency.
Despite the compact dimensions, the new Renault compact SUV offers the class-leading cabin space. It has 710mm of space between the front seats, 220mm of rear legroom and 1431mm of elbow room at the rear. Furthermore, the Kiger offers the biggest boot space of 405-litres that can be expanded to 879-litres with the second row folded. On the safety front, the Renault Kiger has been equipped with dual airbags (driver and front seat passengers), two side airbags, set belt reminder alert for front seats, two front seats and two rear side seats with three point seatbelts and two point seatbelt for the rear middle passenger seat. For connectivity purpose, the compact SUV offers 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The list of features also includes a 7.0-inch TFT digital instrumentation display, automatic climate control, PM2.5 air filter, ambient lighting, 4-speaker and 4-tweeter Arkamys audio system (for higher trims), keyless entry, push button start, layered dashboard, black plastic highlights on the centre console and power window switches and many more goodies.
